THE GHOST WHO LAUGHED TOO LOUD · August 6, 2026
The entire Shadow Hill Mansion was shaking.
The walls cracked.
The floor moved.
Dust fell from the ceiling like snow.
But nobody was enjoying this strange weather.
Especially not Max Miller.
He was hiding behind an old wooden table.
“This is officially the worst investigation I have ever done.”
Luna looked at him.
“You investigated a missing cat last month.”
Max nodded.
“Exactly.”
“And?”
“The cat scratched me.”
Benny looked confused.
“How is a giant monster worse than a cat?”
Max looked serious.
“The cat knew where I lived.”
Nobody argued.
Because everyone knew Max had a strange fear of angry animals.
Even the chicken from the kitchen was still following Benny.
The tiny chicken wore sunglasses and looked ready for battle.
Benny looked at it.
“Why are you still here?”
The chicken clucked.
Sir Giggles translated.
“It says you are its chosen warrior.”
Benny pointed at himself.
“Me?”
The chicken nodded.
“Why?”
Sir Giggles sighed.
“Because you are the only human stupid enough to fight beside it.”
Benny smiled.
“That is actually the nicest thing anyone has said to me.”
A huge crack appeared in the ceiling.
Something moved above them.
Everyone became silent.
The first experiment.
The creature Dr. Crow had forgotten.
The creature that even the Laughing Beast feared.
Slowly…
A dark figure dropped from the ceiling.
BOOM!
The ground shook.
The creature stood up.
It was enormous.
Its body was covered with black armor-like skin.
Its eyes were completely white.
But the scariest thing was not its size.
It had no mouth.
No face expression.
Nothing.
Just silence.
Max whispered:
“That is somehow worse than a monster that laughs.”
The creature turned toward him.
Everyone froze.
Then it spoke.
A deep voice came from nowhere.
“I am The Silence.”
Benny looked around.
“Where is your mouth?”
The creature stared.
“I do not need one.”
Benny nodded.
“Okay.”
He looked at Max.
“I hate that answer.”
Dr. Crow stepped backward.
“No…”
The Silence looked at him.
“Creator.”
The scientist trembled.
“You were destroyed.”
The creature tilted its head.
“You tried.”
Luna looked at Dr. Crow.
“You knew this thing survived?”
Dr. Crow didn’t answer.
Sir Giggles floated forward.
“You lied to everyone.”
The old scientist looked angry.
“I was trying to fix my mistake.”
The Laughing Beast stepped beside Sir Giggles.
“No.”
It looked at him.
“You were trying to create a bigger mistake.”
The Silence suddenly moved.
Too fast.
Nobody saw it.
One second it was standing near the wall.
The next second it was behind Dr. Crow.
It grabbed him.
Max shouted:
“Hey!”
Everyone looked at him.
Max pointed at the monster.
“What are you doing?”
The Silence looked confused.
“I am taking revenge.”
Max nodded.
“Understandable.”
Everyone stared at him.
“But…”
Max raised a finger.
“Revenge is supposed to happen after a dramatic speech.”
Benny blinked.
“What?”
Max continued.
“You cannot just grab someone. Where is the emotional moment?”
The Silence stared.
“You are strange.”
Max smiled.
“I get that a lot.”
The Silence threw Dr. Crow aside.
The old scientist crashed into a pile of papers.
Luna ran toward him.
“Are you okay?”
Dr. Crow looked at her.
“Why are you helping me?”
Luna frowned.
“Because even bad people don’t deserve to be killed by monsters.”
The scientist became quiet.
For the first time…
He looked guilty.
The Laughing Beast attacked The Silence.
BOOM!
The two creatures crashed into the laboratory walls.
The mansion shook.
Sir Giggles watched.
“He is stronger than us.”
Max looked worried.
“How do we stop him?”
Sir Giggles shook his head.
“We cannot.”
Benny pointed at him.
“Wait.”
“You are a ghost.”
“Yes.”
“You know magic.”
“Yes.”
“You are literally supernatural.”
“Yes.”
“And you are saying we cannot defeat him?”
Sir Giggles nodded.
“Correct.”
Benny sighed.
“I hate when the ghost is realistic.”
Suddenly, Max noticed something.
The Silence was not attacking randomly.
It was avoiding something.
Every time it moved near a certain machine…
It stopped.
Max looked closer.
“Wait.”
Luna looked at him.
“What?”
“The monster is afraid.”
Everyone looked surprised.
The Laughing Beast stopped fighting.
“Afraid?”
Max nodded.
“Yes.”
He pointed at the machine.
“That machine controls it.”
Dr. Crow looked shocked.
“How did you notice?”
Max shrugged.
“Because every time it goes near that machine, it becomes slower.”
Benny smiled.
“Your detective skills finally appeared.”
Max looked offended.
“They were always there.”
“Where?”
“Hidden.”
“Very hidden.”
Dr. Crow rushed toward the machine.
“I can deactivate it.”
The Silence suddenly turned.
“No.”
The creature moved toward him.
Max shouted:
“Everyone distract it!”
Luna grabbed a book.
“How?”
Max looked around.
Then his eyes stopped.
The chicken.
The tiny karate chicken.
Max smiled.
“Benny.”
“No.”
“You didn’t even hear my idea.”
“I know your ideas.”
“Trust me.”
“That is exactly why I am worried.”
Max picked up the chicken.
The chicken looked angry.
“Sorry buddy.”
He placed it in front of The Silence.
Everyone waited.
The monster looked down.
The chicken looked up.
A long silence.
Then…
The chicken kicked.
BAM!
The Silence moved backward.
Everyone gasped.
Benny shouted:
“THE CHICKEN HIT THE MONSTER!”
The chicken jumped again.
Kick.
Punch.
Spin.
The Silence actually stepped back.
Max stared.
“I cannot believe I am saying this.”
He pointed.
“The chicken is saving us.”
Sir Giggles nodded.
“I told you it was dangerous.”
While The Silence was distracted, Dr. Crow reached the machine.
His hands shook.
“I spent fifty years trying to control life.”
He looked at Sir Giggles.
“And I never understood it.”
Sir Giggles watched him.
“What changed?”
Dr. Crow looked at the creatures.
“They are not my creations anymore.”
He pressed the button.
The machine exploded with light.
The Silence screamed.
“No!”
A wave of energy passed through the room.
The creature fell.
The mansion became quiet.
For a moment…
Everyone thought it was over.
Then…
The Silence stood again.
Everyone froze.
Max whispered:
“Of course.”
Luna looked at him.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
The creature looked weaker.
But still alive.
“You cannot destroy me.”
Max stepped forward.
“Maybe.”
Everyone looked at him.
“But we don’t need to destroy you.”
The Silence looked confused.
“What?”
Max smiled.
“We just need to understand you.”
The creature became still.
Nobody expected that.
Not even Max.
Benny whispered:
“Did you actually plan something intelligent?”
Max whispered back:
“No.”
“Then?”
“I was hoping it would work.”
The Silence lowered its head.
For the first time…
It looked less like a monster.
And more like something lost.
“I was created alone.”
Its voice became quieter.
“I was made only to destroy.”
Sir Giggles floated closer.
“That was not your choice.”
The creature looked at him.
“What?”
“You were created by someone else.”
Sir Giggles smiled.
“But you decide what you become.”
The Silence looked at everyone.
Then slowly…
It disappeared into shadows.
Not dead.
Not defeated.
Just gone.
The mansion became quiet again.
Everyone looked exhausted.
Benny sat on the floor.
“So…”
He looked around.
“We survived.”
Max nodded.
“Yes.”
“We fought a monster.”
“Yes.”
“We were saved by a chicken.”
“Yes.”
Benny looked at the chicken.
“I will never insult chickens again.”
The chicken nodded proudly.
Then it stole Benny’s sandwich.
Benny screamed.
“NEVER MIND!”
Everyone laughed.
Even Sir Giggles.
But then…
A cold wind entered the room.
The old laboratory screen turned on.
A message appeared.
Everyone looked.
It said:
WARNING: EXPERIMENT ZERO IS ACTIVE.
Max’s smile disappeared.
“Experiment Zero?”
Dr. Crow became pale.
“No…”
Luna looked at him.
“What is it?”
The scientist whispered:
“The experiment that started everything.”
The lights went out.
A voice echoed from the darkness.
“You defeated my copies…”
A shadow moved.
“But you forgot the original.”
Sir Giggles looked terrified.
“Impossible…”
Max swallowed.
“What?”
The ghost whispered:
“The first ghost.”
A laugh filled the mansion.
A laugh louder than any before.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
And this time…
Nobody was laughing.
