The Planet That Stole Tomorrow

Chapter 1

The Planet That Stole Tomorrow

THE PLANET THAT STOLE TOMORROW · August 11, 2026

The first rule of deep-space exploration was simple:

Never trust a planet that sends you a message before you arrive.

Captain Kael Arden knew that rule.

He had broken it anyway.

The starship Aurora drifted silently through the darkness.

Beyond the windows, there were no planets.

No moons.

No distant lights.

Only stars.

Millions of them.

Kael sat in the command chair and watched the navigation display.

A small blue planet appeared at the center of the screen.

VEYRA-9

Distance from Earth:

8.7 light-years.

Estimated population:

0

Atmosphere:

Breathable.

Surface temperature:

22°C.

Kael smiled.

“Beautiful.”

Dr. Mira Solis looked at him from the science station.

“Beautiful things can kill you.”

Kael laughed.

“That’s your opinion.”

“It’s scientific experience.”

Behind them, engineer Jonas Reed was repairing a damaged control panel.

He glanced at the planet.

“Still think this is a good idea?”

Kael looked at him.

“You’ve asked that question seventeen times.”

“And you’ve avoided answering it seventeen times.”

Mira smiled.

“I like Jonas.”

Kael shook his head.

“You’re both terrible crew members.”

Jonas pointed toward the screen.

“Captain, there’s something you should see.”

Kael turned.

“What?”

Jonas enlarged the signal.

A transmission had appeared.

UNKNOWN SOURCE

DISTANCE: VEYRA-9

Mira stood.

“That’s impossible.”

Kael frowned.

“Why?”

“The planet has no active communications equipment.”

“Maybe the scanners are wrong.”

“They aren’t.”

The transmission repeated.

A series of numbers.

Then words.

Kael leaned closer.

“What does it say?”

Mira translated the signal.

Her face changed.

“It says…”

She stopped.

“Say it.”

Mira looked at Kael.

“DO NOT LAND.”

Silence filled the bridge.

Jonas slowly lowered his tools.

Kael stared at the planet.

“Who sent it?”

Mira shook her head.

“We don’t know.”

“When?”

She checked the timestamp.

“Thirty-six minutes ago.”

Kael frowned.

“That’s impossible.”

“Why?”

“We’re still forty thousand kilometers away.”

Mira nodded.

“And yet the message was sent from the surface.”

Kael looked through the window.

Veyra-9 hung silently in space.

Blue oceans.

Green continents.

White clouds.

It looked peaceful.

Too peaceful.

Kael asked,

“Any life signs?”

Mira scanned the planet.

“None.”

“Cities?”

“None.”

“Structures?”

“Nothing.”

Jonas laughed nervously.

“So an empty planet just told us not to land.”

Kael looked at him.

“Apparently.”

Jonas pointed at the navigation screen.

“Then maybe we should listen.”

Kael smiled.

“Prepare landing.”

Mira stared at him.

“You cannot be serious.”

“I’ve never been more serious.”

“But the message—”

“Could be a warning.”

“Exactly.”

“Or a trap.”

Mira crossed her arms.

“And your plan is to walk into the trap?”

Kael stood.

“My plan is to find out who set it.”

Two hours later, the Aurora entered Veyra-9’s atmosphere.

The ship shook.

Warning lights flashed.

Kael held the controls.

“Atmospheric pressure?”

“Normal.”

“Temperature?”

“Normal.”

“Radiation?”

“Zero.”

Kael smiled.

“See?”

Mira looked at the instruments.

“Something is wrong.”

“What?”

“The planet is too normal.”

Kael laughed.

“That’s not a scientific problem.”

“It is when we’re eight light-years from Earth.”

The clouds disappeared beneath them.

A vast green landscape appeared.

Forests.

Mountains.

Rivers.

But no cities.

No roads.

No buildings.

Nothing made by humans.

Kael guided the ship toward a large plain.

“Landing zone ahead.”

Jonas checked the systems.

“Landing gear ready.”

Mira looked through the window.

“Wait.”

“What?”

She pointed downward.

“What’s that?”

Kael looked.

At first, he saw nothing.

Then the sunlight shifted.

A massive structure appeared beneath the clouds.

It was hidden beneath a transparent layer of something.

Kael stared.

“Enhance.”

The image became clearer.

A city.

A huge city.

It stretched for kilometers.

Silver towers.

Floating bridges.

Circular buildings.

Thousands of structures.

Jonas whispered,

“There’s your empty planet.”

Kael stared.

“Why didn’t the scanners detect it?”

Mira shook her head.

“I don’t know.”

“Can we land there?”

“Absolutely not.”

Kael smiled.

“Landing there.”

Mira sighed.

“Of course.”

The Aurora landed on the outskirts of the city.

The engines shut down.

For several seconds, nobody moved.

Kael looked at the clock.

11:42 AM.

“Let’s go.”

The crew exited the ship.

The air smelled clean.

Almost sweet.

Mira checked her scanner.

“Still no life signs.”

Kael looked at the city.

“Then who built this?”

Jonas walked toward a silver tower.

“Maybe the buildings are older than they look.”

Mira followed.

“Impossible.”

Jonas touched the wall.

It was warm.

He pulled his hand away.

“Captain.”

Kael approached.

“What?”

Jonas pointed at the wall.

“It’s responding.”

Small lines of light appeared beneath his hand.

They moved across the surface.

Then formed letters.

Kael stepped closer.

The letters changed.

WELCOME BACK, KAEL.

Nobody spoke.

Mira stared at him.

“Have you been here before?”

Kael shook his head.

“Never.”

The wall changed again.

YOU SAID THAT LAST TIME.

Kael stepped backward.

Jonas whispered,

“Captain…”

A door opened.

Inside was darkness.

Then lights slowly turned on.

A long hallway appeared.

Mira looked at Kael.

“Maybe we should go back to the ship.”

Kael stared into the hallway.

“No.”

“Kael.”

“We came here for answers.”

Mira shook her head.

“I think the planet already knows the answers.”

Kael stepped inside.

“Then let’s see what it knows.”

The hallway led them into a huge room.

At its center was a circular machine.

It looked like a giant clock.

But there were no numbers.

Instead, there were dates.

Kael walked closer.

2189

2190

2191

2192

The dates moved backward.

Mira stared.

“It’s counting down.”

“To what?”

“I don’t know.”

Kael touched the machine.

A hologram appeared.

It showed Earth.

Blue oceans.

Green continents.

Millions of lights.

Then the image changed.

Earth became darker.

Cities disappeared.

The oceans rose.

The hologram displayed a date.

YEAR 2290

Jonas frowned.

“That’s the future.”

Mira nodded.

The hologram changed again.

YEAR 2291

Earth became darker.

Then:

YEAR 2292

Almost all lights disappeared.

Kael stared.

“What happened?”

A voice answered.

“Time.”

They turned.

A man stood behind them.

He looked about forty.

He wore a silver uniform.

Kael raised his weapon.

“Who are you?”

The man smiled.

“My name doesn’t matter.”

“Where did you come from?”

“Earth.”

Mira stared.

“You’re human?”

The man nodded.

“Like you.”

Kael lowered his weapon slightly.

“What is this place?”

The man looked at the giant clock.

“Veyra-9.”

“We know.”

“No.”

He turned toward Kael.

“You know the name.”

He pointed at the machine.

“You don’t know what it is.”

Kael asked,

“What is it?”

The man answered:

“A machine that steals tomorrow.”

Silence.

Jonas laughed nervously.

“That’s impossible.”

The man looked at him.

“Tomorrow has already been stolen from Earth.”

Mira stepped forward.

“What does that mean?”

The man pointed toward the clock.

“Every year, this planet takes one day from Earth’s future.”

Kael frowned.

“Why?”

The man looked at him.

“Because someone built it.”

“Who?”

The man smiled.

“You did.”

Kael froze.

“No.”

The man walked closer.

“You will.”

Kael stared at him.

“What?”

The man touched the clock.

A hologram appeared.

It showed Kael.

Older.

Much older.

Standing inside the same room.

Beside him stood Mira.

Jonas.

But they were different.

Older.

Scarred.

And behind them was a massive machine.

The older Kael looked directly at the hologram.

Then spoke.

“If you’re watching this…”

The recording paused.

The older Kael’s eyes filled with fear.

“…then you have already landed.”

Kael stared.

The recording continued.

“I built Veyra-9 to save humanity.”

The image flickered.

“I failed.”

The room became silent.

Older Kael looked directly at his younger self.

“There is only one thing you need to know.”

He leaned closer.

“Do not trust Mira.”

Kael slowly turned toward her.

Mira’s face had gone pale.

“What?”

The recording ended.

The clock began moving faster.

Dates flashed across the machine.

2189

2188

2187

2186

Kael stared.

“We’re going backward.”

The man from Earth stepped toward the door.

Mira shouted,

“Wait!”

He stopped.

“Who are you?”

He looked back.

“My name is Kael Arden.”

Everyone froze.

Kael stared at him.

“That’s my name.”

The older man smiled sadly.

“I know.”

Then he disappeared.

The lights went out.

A single message appeared on the wall.

WELCOME TO THE BEGINNING.

And somewhere far beneath the city…

a machine started counting backward.

Kael looked at Mira.

“What happens at zero?”

Mira whispered:

“I think…”

She looked terrified.

“…we find out why this planet was built.”

The entire city came alive.

And Veyra-9 opened its eyes.
