The Last Call

Chapter 6

The Last Call

The Last Call · July 21, 2026

Daniel dropped beside Tom.

His brother was bleeding.

Victor stood across the room.

“You’re finished,” Daniel said.

Victor smiled.

“No. You’re just beginning to understand.”

Daniel looked at the system.

The countdown had stopped.

Victor had taken control.

“Your memories belong to me,” Victor said.

Daniel slowly stood.

“No.”

Victor raised his gun.

“You don’t have a choice.”

Daniel smiled.

“That’s where you’re wrong.”

He pulled out the memory card.

Victor’s expression changed.

Daniel had secretly copied the files.

Every name.

Every account.

Every crime.

Everything.

“You can’t control what the world knows.”

Victor fired.

Daniel moved.

The bullet hit the computer.

The system exploded.

Victor fell backward.

Daniel grabbed Tom.

They ran.

Behind them, flames spread through the underground facility.

They reached the surface.

Police surrounded the building.

Detective Vale was waiting.

Daniel handed him the memory card.

“Everything is on here.”

Vale looked at it.

“The Circle?”

“All of it.”

Within hours, the files were released.

The truth spread across the world.

Politicians resigned.

Police officers were arrested.

Businesses collapsed.

The Circle was exposed.

But Victor Kane was missing.

For three days, there was no sign of him.

Then Daniel received a phone call.

2:17 a.m.

He stared at the screen.

Unknown caller.

His heart stopped.

He answered.

Silence.

Then a voice.

“Daniel.”

Victor.

Daniel looked out the window.

“Where are you?”

A soft laugh.

“You still don’t understand.”

Daniel’s eyes moved across the dark street.

Victor continued.

“The Circle was never one man.”

The call ended.

Daniel stood frozen.

Then his phone received a message.

LOOK BEHIND YOU.

Daniel turned.

Tom stood in the doorway.

Alive.

He had survived the shooting.

“Who was that?”

Daniel showed him the message.

Tom stared.

Then he smiled.

“Looks like this isn’t over.”

Daniel shook his head.

“No.”

He deleted the message.

“It is.”

Tom looked confused.

Daniel walked toward the window.

Outside, police cars surrounded the building.

The city was waking up.

For the first time in six years, Daniel felt free.

“The Circle may have existed for years,” he said. “But now everyone knows about it.”

Tom nodded.

“And Victor?”

Daniel looked at the empty street.

“He’s running.”

Tom smiled.

“People like him don’t run.”

Daniel turned.

“Then we’ll make sure he has nowhere left to hide.”

Months passed.

The investigation continued.

Hundreds of people were arrested.

Project Mirror was destroyed.

The remaining members of The Circle were exposed.

Daniel’s mother testified before an international investigation.

Detective Vale disappeared from public life.

And Tom began rebuilding his life.

Daniel never forgot what happened.

Sometimes, at night, he still woke up at 2:17 a.m.

Sometimes his phone still rang.

But the calls were always harmless.

Friends.

Family.

Normal people.

One year later, Daniel stood beside his brother on the roof of an apartment building.

The city glittered beneath them.

“You ever think about leaving?” Tom asked.

Daniel looked at the skyline.

“Every day.”

Tom laughed.

Then Daniel’s phone rang.

2:17 a.m.

Both brothers froze.

Daniel looked at the screen.

Unknown caller.

Tom whispered.

“Don’t answer.”

Daniel stared at the phone.

The ringing continued.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

Then it stopped.

A message appeared.

YOU WON.

Daniel frowned.

Another message followed.

FOR NOW.

Tom looked at him.

Daniel deleted both messages.

Then he threw the phone into a nearby trash bin.

“Let him call.”

Tom smiled.

“What if he comes back?”

Daniel looked at the city.

“Then he’ll find out something The Circle never understood.”

“What?”

Daniel turned toward his brother.

“People can’t be controlled forever.”

The two brothers walked away from the rooftop.

Behind them, the city continued to shine.

Somewhere in the darkness, a man watched them from a distant building.

Victor Kane.

He held a phone in his hand.

On its screen was a single name.

DANIEL CROSS.

Victor smiled.

Then he deleted it.

The game was over.

Or at least, that’s what Daniel believed.

Because sometimes the most dangerous secrets are not the ones hidden in darkness.

They are the ones hiding in plain sight.

And sometimes, the last call…

is only the beginning.
