The Last Sunset

Chapter 6

The Last Sunset

THE GIRL WHO STOLE THE SUNSET · August 21, 2026

There were no stars.

No moon.

No sunset.

For the first time in the history of Asteria, the sky was completely empty.

Ren stood inside the Moonline train, staring through the window.

His reflection stared back.

But something was different.

The golden star on his palm had disappeared.

In its place was a small silver circle.

Aiko stood beside him.

“Ren…”

He didn’t answer.

The entire world below them was covered in darkness.

Cities had stopped glowing.

Floating islands had fallen into silence.

Even the magical clouds had disappeared.

Sora slowly lowered her camera.

“Is this what happens when the sunset disappears?”

Kael nodded.

“The world has stopped moving toward tomorrow.”

Ren finally turned.

“Then we don’t have much time.”

Kael looked at him.

“No.”

“How long?”

Kael checked the ancient clock inside the train.

“Until midnight.”

Ren frowned.

“That’s hours away.”

Kael shook his head.

“Not here.”

He pointed toward the clock.

The hands were moving backward.

“Time is already collapsing.”

The train suddenly stopped.

Aiko looked toward the front.

“We’ve arrived.”

Ren stepped outside.

They were back in Asteria.

But the city was unrecognizable.

Buildings floated upside down.

Streets twisted into the sky.

Trees grew from rooftops.

People stood frozen everywhere.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Nobody remembered.

Sora looked around.

“Where did everyone go?”

Kael answered:

“They’re trapped inside their memories.”

Ren walked toward a frozen woman.

She was smiling.

In her hands was a photograph of her family.

Ren touched the photograph.

A flash of light appeared.

He saw the woman sitting with her children.

Laughing.

Then the memory disappeared.

Ren pulled his hand away.

“They’re still alive.”

Kael nodded.

“Inside their memories.”

“Then we have to wake them.”

“We can’t.”

“Why?”

“Because the Void is feeding on those memories.”

Ren looked toward the sky.

A huge black cloud covered the city.

“It wants their memories.”

“No.”

Kael’s expression darkened.

“It wants something much worse.”

Aiko whispered:

“Their identities.”

A loud bell rang.

Once.

The entire city shook.

Twice.

The ground cracked.

Three times.

The black cloud opened.

A gigantic eye appeared.

The Void spoke.

“REN.”

Ren raised his sword.

“I’m here.”

“RETURN TO ME.”

“No.”

“YOU CANNOT ESCAPE YOUR BLOOD.”

Ren looked at Kael.

“What does it mean?”

Kael was silent.

The Void continued.

“YOUR FATHER CREATED THE FIRST STAR.”

Ren froze.

“What?”

Aiko looked at Kael.

“Tell him.”

Kael closed his eyes.

“Your father wasn’t just a guardian.”

He looked at Ren.

“He was the first Star Maker.”

Ren stared.

“What does that mean?”

“He created the stars.”

“Why?”

“To lock the Void away.”

Ren looked at the dark sky.

“Then why did he create me?”

Kael’s answer was quiet.

“He didn’t.”

Aiko stepped forward.

“I did.”

Ren turned toward her.

“What?”

Aiko touched the star beneath her eye.

“I was created from the last fragment of your mother’s soul.”

Ren’s expression softened.

“I know.”

“But there is something you don’t know.”

Aiko looked down.

“I wasn’t created only to protect you.”

“Then why?”

“To become your heart.”

Silence.

Ren couldn’t speak.

Aiko continued.

“Your father knew the Void would eventually escape.”

“So he created me?”

“No.”

She shook her head.

“Your father created the Star Core.”

She pointed toward Ren.

“And your mother gave it a human form.”

Ren’s eyes widened.

“Me?”

Aiko nodded.

“You are not the Star Prince because you were born royal.”

“You are the Star Prince because you are the living Star Core.”

Ren stared at his hands.

The truth finally made sense.

The dreams.

The drawings.

The stars.

The memories.

Everything.

The Void wasn’t hunting him because he was special.

It was hunting him because he was the key.

The sky split open.

Black creatures descended.

Hundreds.

Thousands.

Sora raised her camera.

“Looks like we’re out of time.”

Kael smiled.

“Then let’s finish this.”

They attacked.

Sora’s camera flashed.

CLICK!

A giant phoenix appeared.

It swept through the sky.

Kael moved through the streets like lightning.

Aiko raised her staff.

Golden light exploded from the ground.

Ren stood at the center.

He closed his eyes.

He could hear the stars.

Tiny voices surrounded him.

Remember.

Create.

Choose.

Ren opened his sketchbook.

But this time, he didn’t draw a weapon.

He drew a sunrise.

Golden mountains.

Blue skies.

Green fields.

People laughing.

Children running.

A world moving toward tomorrow.

He finished the drawing.

Nothing happened.

Sora looked at him.

“Ren?”

He smiled.

“I understand now.”

He tore the drawing from the book.

The paper floated upward.

The entire city became silent.

Then—

FLASH.

Golden light exploded across the sky.

The drawing became real.

A sunrise appeared.

For the first time in days, the world saw color.

The frozen people began moving.

The buildings returned to normal.

The black clouds started disappearing.

The Void screamed.

“NO!”

Ren raised his hand.

The silver circle on his palm became a star.

Then another.

Then hundreds.

The sky filled with stars.

The Void began shrinking.

Aiko smiled.

“You did it.”

Ren looked at her.

“No.”

He shook his head.

“We did.”

The Void became desperate.

Its enormous body descended toward the city.

Kael looked upward.

“It’s coming for Ren.”

Aiko stepped forward.

“Then it has to get through me.”

Kael joined her.

“And me.”

Sora raised her camera.

“And me.”

Ren looked at them.

His family.

His friends.

His home.

He finally understood something.

Power wasn’t about controlling the stars.

It was about having someone beside you when everything went dark.

Ren raised his sword.

“Together.”

They attacked.

Kael’s black sword struck first.

Aiko’s golden magic followed.

Sora’s camera created a storm of magical creatures.

Ren’s Star Sword became brighter than the sun.

All four attacks combined.

BOOOOOOM!

The Void shattered.

Pieces of darkness scattered across the sky.

Then one final piece remained.

A tiny black flame.

It floated toward Ren.

He reached for it.

Aiko screamed:

“Don’t!”

Ren stopped.

The flame whispered:

“Your mother is still alive.”

Ren stared.

“Where?”

The flame pointed toward the sky.

The moon.

Then it disappeared.

Ren lowered his hand.

Kael looked at him.

“You heard it too.”

Ren nodded.

“My mother.”

Aiko stepped closer.

“We’ll find her.”

Ren looked at her.

“You promise?”

She smiled.

“I promise.”

The sun finally appeared.

A golden sunrise spread across Asteria.

People looked toward the sky in wonder.

Children laughed.

Birds returned.

The magical flowers opened.

The frozen clocks began moving again.

Tick.

Tick.

Tick.

Tomorrow had returned.

Sora sat on the roof of the old clock tower.

She looked exhausted.

“I never want to see another magical train again.”

Kael laughed.

“You’ll probably see one tomorrow.”

Sora groaned.

Ren sat beside Aiko.

For a while, neither spoke.

The sun slowly climbed into the sky.

Aiko looked at him.

“Do you still want to know who you really are?”

Ren smiled.

“I think I already know.”

“Who?”

Ren looked at his friends.

“Someone who has people worth protecting.”

Aiko smiled.

“That sounds like you.”

Ren looked at her.

“And you?”

“What about me?”

“Who are you?”

Aiko thought for a moment.

Then smiled.

“Someone who wants to see tomorrow.”

Ren held out his hand.

Aiko took it.

Their fingers intertwined.

Above them, one final star remained visible even though the sun had risen.

Sora noticed.

“Hey.”

Ren looked up.

“What?”

“That star.”

Aiko stared.

Her smile disappeared.

“That shouldn’t be there.”

Kael walked toward them.

“What happened?”

Aiko pointed.

The star was turning black.

A tiny crack appeared across its center.

Then a message appeared in the sky.

I AM STILL HERE.

Ren stood.

The wind suddenly stopped.

Aiko whispered:

“The Void…”

Kael shook his head.

“No.”

“What?”

Kael looked toward the distant horizon.

His face was pale.

“That isn’t the Void.”

Ren stared at the black star.

“Then what is it?”

Kael whispered:

“Something older.”

The star disappeared.

For a moment, nobody moved.

Then Ren smiled.

“We’ll deal with it.”

Aiko looked at him.

“Together?”

“Together.”

The four friends stood beneath the morning sun.

Their journey was over.

But their story was only beginning.

And somewhere beyond the stars, a mysterious woman watched them from a silver throne.

She had golden hair.

A familiar smile.

And the same star beneath her eye as Aiko.

She whispered:

“My son… you finally remembered.”
