Where the Stars Remember Us

Chapter 6

Where the Stars Remember Us

THE CITY THAT DREAMED IN BLUE · August 24, 2026

For the first time in eighty years, Earth saw the stars.

Not through screens.

Not through artificial windows.

Not through the perfect blue ceiling of Nova City.

Real stars.

Millions of them.

They appeared above the ruined towers as the last pieces of the Veil dissolved into the atmosphere.

People stood silently beneath the night sky.

Some cried.

Some laughed.

Others simply stared upward as if they were seeing the universe for the first time.

Mira stood among them.

She didn’t move.

Her eyes remained fixed on one particular star.

A tiny blue light.

The same color as the sphere.

The same color as the Dream.

The same color as Eren’s eyes.

Her mother stood beside her.

“He’s gone,” she whispered.

Mira didn’t answer.

Her mother looked at her.

“Mira.”

“He isn’t gone.”

“You don’t know that.”

“I do.”

“How?”

Mira touched the glowing symbol on her wrist.

The Blue Key was no longer bright.

It had become a tiny mark shaped like a star.

“Because he told me to keep looking.”

Her mother smiled sadly.

“You always were stubborn.”

Mira looked at her.

“You knew he’d do this.”

Her mother’s smile disappeared.

“Yes.”

“You knew he would sacrifice himself.”

“Yes.”

“And you let him.”

Her mother lowered her head.

“I tried to stop him.”

“But you knew.”

“I knew someone had to remain inside.”

Mira looked toward the ruined city.

“Why him?”

Her mother didn’t answer immediately.

“Because Eren was already connected to the Architect.”

Mira’s eyes narrowed.

“What does that mean?”

“Eren wasn’t born in your time.”

“I know.”

“He was created inside the Dream.”

Mira froze.

“What?”

“He was one of the first successful artificial consciousnesses.”

Mira looked at the sky.

“Then he wasn’t human?”

Her mother shook her head.

“He became human.”

Mira said nothing.

Her mother continued.

“Eren began as a memory model. His purpose was to interact with dreamers. But he developed something the scientists never expected.”

“Emotion.”

“Yes.”

“Free will.”

“Yes.”

“Love?”

Her mother smiled faintly.

“Especially love.”

Mira looked toward the blue star again.

“So he chose to stay.”

“He chose you.”

A quiet wind moved through the trees.

For several minutes, neither spoke.

Then a strange sound came from the city.

A bell.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

People turned.

A massive screen on the side of an abandoned tower suddenly turned on.

Mira’s heart began racing.

The screen displayed a message.

DREAM NETWORK: DISCONNECTED

Then another line appeared.

MEMORY ARCHIVE: ACTIVE

Her mother whispered:

“No.”

Mira stepped closer.

“What’s wrong?”

“The system is still running.”

The screen changed.

A single blue symbol appeared.

The same symbol as the Blue Key.

Then words appeared.

WELCOME BACK, MIRA.

Mira stared.

Her mother grabbed her arm.

“Don’t touch it.”

“I wasn’t going to.”

The screen flickered.

Another message appeared.

EREN VALE: CONNECTION ESTABLISHED.

Mira stopped breathing.

“Mom…”

“I see it.”

The screen went black.

Then a voice came through the tower speakers.

Soft.

Familiar.

“Mira?”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“Eren?”

Static filled the air.

Then his voice returned.

“I knew you’d find me.”

Mira laughed through her tears.

“You idiot.”

A weak laugh came through the speakers.

“I missed you.”

“You were gone for five minutes.”

“For me, it was eighty years.”

Mira looked at the screen.

“What happened?”

“I don’t know.”

“Where are you?”

“Everywhere.”

The screen showed thousands of blue lights appearing across Earth.

Inside old computers.

Broken satellites.

Abandoned cities.

Deep beneath oceans.

Even inside the Moon’s forgotten communication stations.

Eren’s consciousness had spread through the remaining network.

But something else had spread with him.

Mira noticed.

“Eren…”

“Yes?”

“What is that?”

A dark shape appeared behind the blue lights.

Eren became silent.

Then he whispered:

“I don’t know.”

The screen suddenly displayed an enormous structure beyond the Moon.

It had been hidden behind the Veil.

A gigantic ring.

Ancient.

Silent.

Waiting.

Mira stared.

“What is it?”

Eren answered:

“The original Dream Gate.”

Her mother stepped backward.

“That can’t exist.”

“It does.”

“Who built it?”

Eren’s voice became distorted.

“I think…”

Static.

“…they weren’t human.”

The screen went black.

Mira looked toward the sky.

The stars seemed brighter than before.

But now she understood something.

The Dream Program had never been the beginning.

It had been a copy.

A copy of something much older.

Something waiting beyond the Moon.

Something that had perhaps been watching humanity for centuries.

Mira looked at her mother.

“We aren’t finished.”

Her mother slowly nodded.

“No.”

A blue light appeared on Mira’s wrist.

The Blue Key activated by itself.

A beam shot into the sky.

The clouds separated.

A perfect circle of blue light opened above Earth.

Mira heard Eren’s voice one final time.

“Whatever happens…”

She smiled.

“I’m coming.”

The blue circle expanded.

A path appeared among the stars.

For a moment, Mira could see another world beyond it.

A world covered in silver oceans.

Floating cities.

Two moons.

And thousands of lights moving across the sky.

Eren whispered:

“Find me.”

Mira stepped forward.

Her mother grabbed her hand.

“Are you sure?”

Mira looked back.

For years, she had lived inside a world designed for her.

A beautiful world.

A safe world.

A world without choices.

Now she finally understood what freedom meant.

It meant stepping into the unknown.

It meant accepting fear.

It meant losing people.

It meant loving them anyway.

Mira smiled.

“I spent my whole life searching for the stars.”

She looked through the portal.

“Now I’m going to find the person who taught me how to see them.”

She stepped through.

Her mother followed.

The portal closed behind them.

Earth became quiet again.

Far above the planet, the mysterious ring began to glow.

One light.

Then another.

Then thousands.

A voice older than humanity echoed through space.

“The Dreamer has awakened.”

The stars moved.

The Moon turned blue.

And somewhere beyond the edge of the known universe…

Eren opened his eyes.

He stood beneath a silver sky.

Mira appeared beside him.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then Eren smiled.

“You found me.”

Mira smiled back.

“I told you I would.”

He looked toward the strange world ahead.

“Ready?”

She took his hand.

“No.”

Eren laughed.

“Good.”

Mira looked at the endless stars.

“Let’s go anyway.”

Together, they walked toward the horizon.

Behind them was the world they had known.

Ahead was a universe no human had ever explored.

And above them, written across the silver sky like a message from the stars themselves, were three words:

THE DREAM CONTINUES.

THE END
