Seven Days to Fall in Love
THE SUMMER YOU WALKED INTO MY LIFE · August 25, 2026
At exactly seven o’clock, Ethan was waiting outside the café.
Emma arrived three minutes late.
He checked his watch dramatically.
“Three minutes.”
She smiled.
“You’re counting?”
“I’ve been waiting.”
“Three minutes isn’t waiting.”
“It is when you’ve been looking forward to seeing someone.”
Emma looked away.
She wasn’t used to words like that.
Most people said things without meaning them.
Ethan said everything as though he had already thought about it.
They walked inside.
The café was small and quiet, with warm lights and wooden tables near the windows.
Ethan pulled out a chair for her.
“Thank you.”
“I remembered your coffee.”
Emma raised an eyebrow.
“You remembered?”
“Vanilla latte. No sugar.”
She smiled.
“You really do remember everything.”
“Only important things.”
Her heart skipped.
She looked down at the menu.
“You’re dangerous.”
“Why?”
“You say things that make people believe you.”
Ethan’s smile disappeared for a moment.
“Maybe I want you to believe me.”
Emma looked at him.
There was something different in his eyes.
Something serious.
She quickly changed the subject.
“So, what do you do?”
“I’m an architect.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
“I thought you’d say something boring.”
“Like?”
“Lawyer. Banker. Businessman.”
He laughed.
“What about you?”
“I work at a publishing company.”
“Do you love it?”
Emma thought about it.
“Sometimes.”
“That’s not a real answer.”
She smiled.
“I love books.”
“Then why not write one?”
“I don’t have a story.”
Ethan looked at her.
“I think everyone has a story.”
“Maybe.”
“What would yours be called?”
Emma stared through the window.
“Goodbye.”
Ethan’s expression softened.
“That’s a sad title.”
“Maybe.”
“How about something else?”
“Like what?”
He smiled.
“Maybe…”
He paused.
“The Summer You Walked Into My Life.”
Emma laughed.
“That’s terrible.”
“I think it’s beautiful.”
“You’ve known me for one day.”
“Sometimes one day is enough to change everything.”
She didn’t answer.
Because somewhere inside her, she knew he might be right.
After coffee, they walked through the city.
The sun was beginning to set.
Emma stopped outside a small bookstore.
“I love this place.”
Ethan looked at the sign.
“Want to go inside?”
“Of course.”
They entered.
Emma immediately disappeared between the shelves.
Ethan followed.
“You really love books.”
“I told you.”
She picked up a novel.
“Have you read this?”
“No.”
“You should.”
“Will you recommend one?”
She smiled.
“Maybe.”
He took a book from her hand.
“Then I’ll buy this.”
“You’re not even reading the title.”
“I trust you.”
Emma looked at him.
“Why?”
“Because you look like someone who wouldn’t recommend a bad story.”
She laughed.
“You don’t know me.”
“Not yet.”
That word stayed with her.
Yet.
They spent two hours inside the bookstore.
When they finally left, the sky was dark.
Emma checked her phone.
She had three missed calls from Mia.
“Your friend?”
“Yes.”
“She’s probably worried.”
“Probably.”
Ethan looked at her.
“Do you have somewhere to be?”
“No.”
“Then stay.”
Emma smiled.
“Where?”
He pointed toward the park.
“There.”
They walked through the quiet streets.
The park was almost empty.
A few lights illuminated the path.
They reached a small lake.
Emma sat on a bench.
Ethan sat beside her.
For several minutes, they watched the water.
Then Ethan asked:
“Why are you leaving?”
Emma’s smile disappeared.
“I told you.”
“Fresh start?”
“Yes.”
“That’s not the whole story.”
She looked at him.
“You ask too many questions.”
“And you avoid too many answers.”
She sighed.
“My last relationship ended badly.”
Ethan said nothing.
“He cheated on me.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I trusted him.”
She looked at the lake.
“I thought I knew him.”
Ethan’s voice was gentle.
“Then he didn’t deserve your trust.”
Emma smiled sadly.
“Maybe I don’t trust myself anymore.”
“Why?”
“Because I ignored every warning.”
Ethan turned toward her.
“Don’t punish yourself for loving someone.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“You make it sound easy.”
“It’s not.”
He reached for her hand.
She hesitated.
Then let him hold it.
“Emma…”
She looked at him.
“You don’t have to be afraid of everyone because one person hurt you.”
A tear rolled down her cheek.
“I know.”
“No, you don’t.”
He gently wiped the tear away.
“But you will.”
For the first time in a long time, Emma felt safe.
Not because Ethan promised never to hurt her.
But because he wasn’t asking her to trust him immediately.
He was simply giving her time.
The next morning, Emma woke up to a message.
Good morning.
She smiled.
Another message appeared.
Day three. Five days left.
Emma frowned.
Five days until what?
His reply came quickly.
Until you leave.
She stared at the screen.
Then another message arrived.
I’m going to make these five days unforgettable.
Emma laughed.
She typed:
Don’t make promises you can’t keep.
Ethan replied:
Then I’ll make memories instead.
Emma placed the phone against her chest.
She was smiling.
And that scared her.
Because she was beginning to care.
That afternoon, Ethan took her to a quiet beach outside the city.
They walked barefoot along the shore.
Emma collected seashells.
Ethan watched her.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“You’re staring.”
“I like watching you smile.”
She looked away.
“You say that too easily.”
“I mean it.”
The waves touched their feet.
Emma looked at the horizon.
“I’ve never been here before.”
“Neither have I.”
She laughed.
“You brought me somewhere you’ve never been?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I wanted our first beach to be ours.”
Emma stopped walking.
Ethan looked at her.
“What?”
She shook her head.
“Nothing.”
But her heart was saying something completely different.
Don’t leave.
That evening, they sat beside a small fire.
Ethan handed her a blanket.
“You’ll get cold.”
“I’m okay.”
“I know.”
He placed the blanket around her anyway.
Emma smiled.
“You always do that.”
“Do what?”
“Take care of people.”
He looked into the fire.
“My mother.”
Emma waited.
“She passed away when I was young.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I learned early that people don’t stay forever.”
Emma looked at him.
“That’s why you understand me.”
“Maybe.”
They sat quietly.
Then Ethan looked at her.
“Emma.”
“Yes?”
“If you didn’t have to leave…”
She waited.
“Would you stay?”
Her heart stopped.
She looked at him.
“I don’t know.”
He nodded.
“That’s enough.”
“Why?”
“Because yesterday you said definitely no.”
She laughed softly.
“You’re keeping track?”
“Of everything.”
He smiled.
Emma looked at the ocean.
For the first time, she wondered if leaving was really what she wanted.
Maybe a new life didn’t have to mean another city.
Maybe a fresh start could be a person.
Maybe it could be Ethan.
Later that night, Ethan drove her home.
Before she stepped out, he said:
“Tomorrow?”
Emma smiled.
“Tomorrow.”
She closed the door.
Ethan waited until she entered the building.
Then he drove away.
Emma reached her apartment.
She opened the door.
And froze.
A suitcase was sitting in the middle of her living room.
Her old friend Mia stood beside it.
“We need to talk.”
Emma’s smile disappeared.
“About what?”
Mia looked at her.
“Your plans.”
“What about them?”
“You’re not leaving next week.”
Emma stared at her.
“Why?”
Mia handed her a letter.
Emma opened it.
Her face went pale.
The letter contained only one sentence.
Your past knows where you are.
And suddenly, the happiness she had found with Ethan didn’t feel so safe anymore.
Because someone had followed her.
Someone who knew exactly why she was leaving.
And someone who wasn’t ready to let her disappear.
To be continued…
