THE KING WHO FORGOT HIS NAME
THE CELESTIAL MASK · August 4, 2026
Silence.
For the first time in thousands of years…
The First God had bowed.
Not to a king.
Not to a warrior.
Not to a god.
But to Kairo.
Kairo stood frozen.
His body was surrounded by silver light.
The Celestial Mask floated behind him.
The massive creature remained on one knee.
Mira stared at Kairo.
She couldn’t understand what she was seeing.
“Kairo.”
He didn’t answer.
His eyes were no longer completely human.
They looked like two galaxies.
Stars moved inside them.
Kairo looked down at his hands.
“I…”
His voice trembled.
“I don’t understand.”
The First God lifted its head.
YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN.
Kairo looked at it.
“Forgotten what?”
EVERYTHING.
A strange sound filled the sky.
The stars began moving.
The entire world changed.
Kairo saw images.
A city made of light.
Millions of people.
Celestial beings flying through the sky.
A massive throne.
And someone sitting on it.
Him.
Kairo.
But he wasn’t sixteen.
He looked ancient.
His hair was white.
A crown of stars floated above his head.
He was wearing the Celestial Mask.
Beside him stood seven warriors.
One of them was Kael.
Another was Lyra.
Another…
Veyra.
Kairo watched.
His past.
His real past.
The First God spoke.
YOU WERE THE FIRST.
Kairo shook his head.
“No.”
THE FIRST CELESTIAL.
“No.”
THE CREATOR OF THE MASKS.
“Stop.”
THE KING OF AETHERIA.
Kairo covered his ears.
“Stop!”
The visions became stronger.
He saw a war.
Thousands of Celestials fighting.
The sky burned.
Mountains disappeared.
Oceans turned black.
Kairo saw himself standing at the center of the battlefield.
He raised his hand.
Everything stopped.
The war ended.
Then he saw Veyra.
Veyra was younger.
He was kneeling.
Kairo heard his own voice.
I will protect this world.
Then he saw Seraphine.
She was crying.
Kairo had his hand on her shoulder.
I trust you.
Then he saw Kael.
Kairo smiled at him.
You are my brother.
Then Lyra.
Kairo looked at her.
And his heart broke.
She was holding a baby.
Kairo.
The memory changed.
Veyra stood in front of him.
“Please.”
Kairo heard him.
“Give me the power.”
Kairo shook his head.
You aren’t ready.
Veyra became angry.
“You’re afraid of me.”
No.
“You should be.”
Then the memory ended.
Kairo fell to his knees.
Mira caught him.
“Kairo!”
He looked at her.
Tears were running down his face.
“I remember.”
Mira held his shoulders.
“What?”
He looked at her.
“Everything.”
Mira’s heart sank.
“What happened?”
Kairo whispered:
“I knew them.”
“Who?”
“Everyone.”
He looked toward Veyra.
“I knew Veyra.”
Then Seraphine.
“I knew her.”
Then Kael.
“My father.”
Then the First God.
“I created him.”
Mira stared.
Kairo closed his eyes.
“I created everything.”
The First God bowed again.
YES.
Kairo looked at it.
“Why?”
BECAUSE YOU WANTED TO CREATE A WORLD WHERE EVERYONE COULD BE FREE.
Kairo’s voice became quiet.
“And did I?”
The First God didn’t answer.
Kairo understood.
“No.”
The creature remained silent.
Kairo looked toward Veyra.
“What happened?”
Veyra was still wounded.
Blood covered his chest.
But he was smiling.
“You happened.”
Kairo stared.
“What?”
“You created this world.”
Veyra pointed toward Aetheria.
“You created the Celestials.”
He pointed toward the First God.
“You created the First God.”
Then he pointed toward Kairo.
“And then…”
His smile disappeared.
“…you abandoned us.”
Kairo shook his head.
“I didn’t.”
“Yes.”
“Why would I?”
“Because you became afraid.”
“Of what?”
“Of yourself.”
Kairo froze.
Veyra continued:
“You saw what your power was doing.”
Kairo looked at his hands.
“What was it doing?”
“Destroying everything.”
Mira stepped forward.
“That’s a lie.”
Veyra looked at her.
“You weren’t there.”
“You don’t know him.”
“I know him better than anyone.”
Kairo looked at Veyra.
“Then tell me.”
Veyra stared.
“Tell me what happened.”
Veyra laughed.
“You want the truth?”
“Yes.”
“Fine.”
He stepped closer.
“Your power was too great.”
Kairo listened.
“You could create life.”
“You could destroy it.”
“You could control time.”
“You could travel between worlds.”
“You could erase memories.”
Kairo looked at Seraphine.
“That’s why you erased mine.”
Seraphine shook her head.
“No.”
Kairo turned.
“Then why?”
Seraphine’s voice became weak.
“Because you asked me to.”
Kairo froze.
“What?”
“You asked me to erase your memories.”
“Why?”
“Because you wanted to become human.”
Kairo stared.
Seraphine continued:
“You were tired of being a king.”
“You wanted to live.”
“You wanted to love.”
“You wanted a family.”
Kairo’s eyes filled with tears.
“And I agreed.”
“Then why did you imprison my mother?”
Seraphine looked at him.
“I didn’t.”
Kairo froze.
“What?”
“I never imprisoned Lyra.”
“Then who did?”
Seraphine pointed toward Veyra.
Kairo slowly turned.
Veyra’s smile disappeared.
“You.”
Veyra shook his head.
“She was dangerous.”
“She was my mother.”
“She was carrying your power.”
“She was carrying me.”
“Exactly.”
Kairo stepped forward.
“What did you do to her?”
Veyra remained silent.
Kairo’s voice became louder.
“What did you do to my mother?”
Veyra finally answered.
“I took her.”
“Where?”
“Earth.”
“Why?”
“Because I wanted to hide you.”
Kairo froze.
“From who?”
Veyra looked at the First God.
“From him.”
The First God raised its head.
I WOULD NEVER HARM MY KING.
Veyra laughed.
“That’s what you think.”
Kairo looked at the creature.
“Why would I need protection from you?”
The First God didn’t answer.
Kairo stepped closer.
“Answer me.”
The creature remained silent.
Kairo raised his hand.
The sky began shaking.
Mira grabbed his arm.
“Kairo.”
He looked at her.
“I need to know.”
“I know.”
“What if I’m dangerous?”
Mira stared at him.
“Then I’ll stop you.”
Kairo blinked.
“What?”
Mira stepped closer.
“If you ever become a monster…”
She raised her sword.
“…I’ll be the one who brings you back.”
Kairo stared.
“Even if I become the King?”
“Especially then.”
He smiled.
For the first time since remembering his past…
Kairo felt something warm.
Something human.
Mira lowered her sword.
“You’re still Kairo.”
Kairo whispered:
“How do you know?”
“Because the real Kairo would be worried about everyone else.”
She touched his chest.
“And because you’re still afraid.”
Kairo looked at her.
“Of what?”
“Of losing the people you love.”
Kairo’s eyes softened.
Mira smiled.
“That’s what makes you human.”
Kairo looked away.
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For reminding me.”
“Of what?”
“Who I am.”
Suddenly…
A loud crack echoed across the sky.
Everyone looked upward.
The Gate was collapsing.
The First God stood.
THE WORLDS ARE SEPARATING.
Kairo looked at it.
“What happens if they separate?”
YOU WILL BE TRAPPED HERE.
Kairo froze.
Mira stepped forward.
“Kairo can’t stay.”
The First God looked at her.
WHY?
“Because his home is Earth.”
THIS IS HIS KINGDOM.
Mira shook her head.
“That’s not what he wants.”
Kairo looked at her.
She smiled.
“Is it?”
Kairo thought.
The palace.
The Celestials.
The throne.
The power.
Everything he had once possessed.
But then he remembered Earth.
His small apartment.
The city.
The rain.
His mother’s old photograph.
His life.
Mira.
Kairo shook his head.
“No.”
The First God stared.
YOU REFUSE YOUR THRONE?
“Yes.”
YOU REFUSE YOUR POWER?
Kairo looked at his hands.
“I don’t want to be a king.”
THEN WHAT DO YOU WANT?
Kairo looked at Mira.
“I want to be Kairo.”
Silence.
The First God slowly stood.
THEN YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING.
Kairo nodded.
“Maybe.”
YOUR POWER.
“Fine.”
YOUR MEMORIES.
Kairo froze.
“What?”
The First God continued:
IF YOU RETURN TO EARTH, YOUR MEMORIES OF AETHERIA WILL DISAPPEAR.
Kairo stared.
“No.”
Mira’s face changed.
“Kairo…”
He looked at her.
She was crying.
“You won’t remember me.”
Kairo’s heart broke.
“No.”
The First God continued:
YOU WILL FORGET YOUR FATHER.
Kairo closed his eyes.
YOUR MOTHER.
Tears fell.
YOUR TRUE IDENTITY.
Kairo looked at Mira.
“Everything?”
EVERYTHING.
Mira stepped closer.
“Then don’t go.”
Kairo stared.
“What?”
“Stay.”
“Mira…”
“You’ll be a king.”
“No.”
“You’ll have everything.”
“I don’t want everything.”
“Then what do you want?”
Kairo looked at her.
“You.”
Mira froze.
Kairo stepped closer.
“I want you.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“I want my mother.”
He looked toward Kael.
“I want my father.”
Then he looked at Aetheria.
“I want the truth.”
He shook his head.
“But I don’t want to lose myself.”
Mira whispered:
“Then what will you do?”
Kairo looked toward the Gate.
“I’ll find another way.”
The palace suddenly shook.
Kael fell to his knees.
Kairo ran toward him.
“Father!”
Kael looked up.
His memories were returning.
“Kairo.”
Kairo knelt.
“I’m here.”
Kael grabbed his hand.
“Listen to me.”
“What?”
“You have to leave.”
“I won’t.”
“You must.”
“Why?”
“Because Veyra is coming.”
Kairo looked behind him.
Veyra was gone.
Kairo froze.
“Where is he?”
Kael looked terrified.
“He’s going to Earth.”
Kairo stood.
“Why?”
“To open the Gate from the other side.”
Kairo understood.
“He’s going after Mira.”
Kael nodded.
Kairo turned.
“Mira!”
She was standing near the Gate.
The portal was disappearing.
Kairo ran toward her.
Mira looked at him.
“Kairo!”
He grabbed her hand.
“Stay with me.”
“I am.”
“No.”
He shook his head.
“I mean…”
He looked into her eyes.
“…whatever happens, stay with me.”
Mira smiled.
“I promise.”
The Gate collapsed.
Kairo and Mira were separated.
“MIRA!”
Kairo reached for her.
She reached for him.
Their hands touched.
Then…
The world exploded.
Kairo woke up.
Rain fell on his face.
He opened his eyes.
The sky was dark.
The buildings around him were familiar.
Astralis.
He was home.
Kairo slowly sat up.
He looked around.
“Mira?”
No answer.
He stood.
“Mira!”
Nothing.
Kairo ran through the streets.
People stared.
He didn’t care.
He reached the underground station.
The entrance was destroyed.
He searched everywhere.
“Mira!”
Then he saw someone.
A girl.
Silver hair.
Black jacket.
Golden eyes.
Mira.
Kairo froze.
She was standing across the street.
He ran toward her.
“Mira!”
She turned.
Their eyes met.
For one second…
Kairo felt everything.
A strange feeling.
Like he had known her forever.
Like he had lost her.
Like he had found her again.
Mira stared at him.
“Do I know you?”
Kairo stopped.
His heart broke.
She didn’t remember.
The First God had been right.
Kairo looked at her.
“I’m sorry.”
Mira frowned.
“For what?”
Kairo smiled sadly.
“Nothing.”
He turned.
Mira watched him walk away.
Something inside her felt wrong.
She didn’t know why.
But her heart was hurting.
“Kairo.”
The name escaped her lips.
She froze.
“Why did I say that?”
Kairo stopped.
He heard her.
He turned.
Mira was staring at him.
“Kairo?”
He smiled.
“Yes.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
She didn’t know why.
But she ran toward him.
Kairo caught her.
Mira buried her face against his chest.
“I don’t know you.”
Kairo closed his eyes.
“I know.”
“But I feel like…”
She struggled.
“…like I’ve been waiting for you.”
Kairo held her tighter.
“You have.”
Mira pulled away.
“Who are you?”
Kairo looked into her eyes.
“My name is Kairo.”
She stared.
Then smiled.
“I’m Mira.”
“I know.”
“How?”
Kairo smiled.
“I’ll tell you someday.”
That night…
Kairo sat on the roof of the same building where everything had begun.
Mira sat beside him.
She still didn’t remember Aetheria.
She didn’t remember the Celestial Masks.
She didn’t remember the First God.
She didn’t remember that Kairo had once been a king.
But she remembered something.
A feeling.
A connection.
A promise.
Kairo looked at the stars.
They were quiet.
For the first time in his life…
The stars weren’t whispering.
Mira looked at him.
“You’re strange.”
Kairo laughed.
“That’s what people say.”
“Do I know you?”
Kairo looked at her.
“Not yet.”
“But I feel like I do.”
“Maybe that’s enough.”
Mira smiled.
Then suddenly…
The sky turned black.
Kairo stood.
His smile disappeared.
“Mira.”
“What?”
“Run.”
A shadow appeared behind them.
A man stepped from the darkness.
Veyra.
Mira stood.
“Who is that?”
Kairo’s body became tense.
“Someone I hoped I would never see again.”
Veyra smiled.
“You remember.”
Kairo stared.
“You remember everything.”
“Not everything.”
Veyra stepped forward.
“But enough.”
Kairo raised his hand.
His power awakened.
Stars appeared around him.
Mira stared.
“What is happening?”
Kairo looked at her.
“Stay behind me.”
Veyra laughed.
“Always protecting her.”
Kairo’s eyes became cold.
“Leave her alone.”
Veyra shook his head.
“I can’t.”
“Why?”
“Because she is the key.”
Mira froze.
“The key to what?”
Veyra smiled.
“The First Mask.”
Kairo looked at Mira.
She looked confused.
Veyra pointed at her.
“You thought you were protecting Kairo.”
Mira stepped backward.
“But you never realized…”
Veyra’s eyes glowed red.
“…that Kairo was protecting you.”
Kairo froze.
“What are you talking about?”
Veyra smiled.
“Ask her.”
Kairo turned toward Mira.
“Mira?”
She looked terrified.
“I don’t know.”
Veyra laughed.
“Of course you don’t.”
Kairo raised his hand.
“Enough.”
Veyra looked at him.
“You forgot one thing when you returned to Earth.”
“What?”
“Your memories disappeared.”
Veyra smiled.
“But hers didn’t.”
Kairo stared at Mira.
“What?”
Veyra disappeared into the darkness.
His final words echoed across the rooftop.
“Ask her about the night she killed your father.”
Kairo froze.
Mira’s face turned pale.
Kairo slowly turned toward her.
“Mira?”
She couldn’t speak.
“Did you know my father?”
Mira’s eyes filled with tears.
“Kairo…”
“Did you?”
She closed her eyes.
Kairo stepped backward.
“You did.”
Mira whispered:
“I didn’t know it was him.”
Kairo’s voice broke.
“What did you do?”
Mira looked at him.
“I killed the man who was hunting you.”
Kairo stared.
“That man was my father.”
Silence.
Mira began crying.
“I didn’t know.”
Kairo couldn’t move.
Then…
The Celestial Mask appeared in his hands.
The stars began screaming.
And somewhere deep inside Kairo’s soul…
His forgotten memories began returning.
One by one.
The throne.
The war.
The masks.
The First God.
His father.
His mother.
Mira.
And the promise he had made thousands of years ago.
A promise that had started the entire war.
Kairo looked at Mira.
“You killed my father.”
Mira cried.
“I’m sorry.”
Kairo closed his eyes.
Then he heard a voice.
His own voice.
From the past.
When the stars fall…
When the Gate opens…
When the one you love betrays you…
You must choose.
Kairo opened his eyes.
They were glowing.
Love…
Or revenge.
Kairo looked at Mira.
The girl he had trusted.
The girl who had protected him.
The girl who had unknowingly killed his father.
His heart was breaking.
And for the first time…
Kairo didn’t know what to choose.
