WHEN LOVE BECAME A WEAPON
THE ENEMY I COULDN’T STOP LOVING · July 23, 2026
The first thing Seraphina learned about love was that it made you brave.
The second thing she learned was that it made you terrified.
Before Adrian, she had believed fear was something simple.
A dark room.
A dangerous person.
A painful memory.
But now she understood that the greatest fear wasn’t losing your own life.
It was watching someone you loved disappear from yours.
And Adrian Blackwood had become exactly that person.
The one person she couldn’t lose.
The one person she had once promised herself she would never love.
The one person whose arms now felt more like home than any place she had ever known.
And that terrified her.
Because the Black Rose knew.
They knew about Adrian.
They knew about her.
And now…
They knew they loved each other.
Seraphina sat silently in the passenger seat as Adrian drove through the darkness.
The rain had started again.
Heavy drops struck the windshield.
The city lights passed around them like distant stars.
Neither of them spoke.
Adrian’s hands remained tightly wrapped around the steering wheel.
His jaw was tense.
His eyes stayed fixed on the road.
Seraphina watched him.
Finally, she whispered,
“Adrian.”
“Yes?”
“Are you angry?”
“No.”
“You’re lying.”
“Yes.”
She looked out the window.
“At me?”
“No.”
“Then who?”
“Everyone.”
“That’s a lot of people.”
“Exactly.”
She almost smiled.
But his expression remained serious.
“You’re afraid.”
“No.”
“You’re lying again.”
“Yes.”
She looked at him.
“You’re terrible at hiding your feelings.”
“I’ve had practice.”
“Not with me.”
“No.”
The silence returned.
Then Seraphina reached across the space between them.
She placed her hand over his.
Adrian’s fingers immediately tightened around hers.
Neither looked at the other.
But the gesture said everything.
I am here.
I am not leaving.
For the first time since they had discovered the truth…
Adrian’s shoulders relaxed.
Only slightly.
But Seraphina noticed.
“Whatever happens,” she whispered.
He looked at her.
“We’ll face it together.”
His eyes softened.
“Together.”
She smiled.
“That’s our word now.”
“I know.”
“Do you like it?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I never had it before.”
Her heart ached.
“Had what?”
“Someone.”
Seraphina looked at him.
Adrian’s eyes returned to the road.
“I grew up surrounded by people.”
He paused.
“But I was always alone.”
She squeezed his hand.
“Not anymore.”
“No.”
He looked at her.
“Not anymore.”
They returned to Blackwood Manor just before midnight.
The security team was already waiting.
Adrian immediately ordered everyone inside.
“No one leaves.”
One of the guards nodded.
“Yes, sir.”
Seraphina frowned.
“Adrian.”
“What?”
“Why are you acting like we’re under siege?”
“We are.”
“You’re being dramatic.”
He stared at her.
“Someone shot at us.”
“Yes.”
“Someone knows about us.”
“Yes.”
“Someone is threatening your life.”
“Yes.”
“Then we’re under siege.”
Seraphina sighed.
“When you put it that way…”
“That’s the way it is.”
She looked at him.
“Do you always have to be right?”
“No.”
“Really?”
“Sometimes I’m wrong.”
“When?”
“Never.”
She laughed.
Adrian smiled.
For a few seconds…
They were just two people.
Not heirs.
Not enemies.
Not victims of an ancient feud.
Just Adrian and Seraphina.
Then the lights went out.
Everything became dark.
Seraphina froze.
“Adrian?”
“I’m here.”
She felt his hand find hers.
“Stay close.”
“I am.”
A sound came from upstairs.
Footsteps.
Adrian immediately pulled her behind him.
The security team moved.
“Search the house.”
Men rushed upstairs.
A scream followed.
Then silence.
Seraphina’s heart raced.
“What happened?”
Adrian didn’t answer.
He moved forward.
She followed.
They reached the second floor.
One of the guards was lying unconscious.
Adrian crouched beside him.
“Is he alive?”
“Yes.”
“Where’s the attacker?”
“Unknown.”
Seraphina looked around.
The hallway was empty.
Then she saw it.
A black rose.
Placed on the floor.
Adrian’s face darkened.
“No.”
“What?”
He picked it up.
“It’s a message.”
“From whom?”
Adrian turned it over.
A small piece of paper was attached.
He opened it.
Seraphina watched his expression change.
“What does it say?”
He handed it to her.
She read.
ONE OF YOU WILL BETRAY THE OTHER.
Seraphina looked at Adrian.
“That’s it?”
“No.”
“What else?”
He took the paper.
There was writing on the back.
AND WHEN YOU DO…
Adrian turned it over.
His eyes became cold.
Seraphina read the final words.
THE OTHER WILL DIE.
The next morning, they made a decision.
They would leave.
Not because they were afraid.
But because Blackwood Manor was no longer safe.
Adrian arranged a private location.
An old family estate in the mountains.
Few people knew about it.
No one outside the family had ever visited.
They left before sunrise.
Seraphina sat beside Adrian.
She watched the city disappear behind them.
“Where exactly are we going?”
“Somewhere safe.”
“That’s not an answer.”
“It’s the only one you’re getting.”
“You’re becoming secretive again.”
“I have to.”
“Why?”
“Because if the Black Rose has someone inside my security team…”
He paused.
“Then I can’t trust anyone.”
Seraphina stared at him.
“Not even me?”
Adrian looked at her.
“No.”
She felt hurt.
His expression changed immediately.
“That’s not what I meant.”
“You said you can’t trust anyone.”
“I trust you.”
“Then why did you say—”
“Because I’m afraid.”
The words silenced her.
Adrian rarely admitted fear.
She turned toward him.
“Afraid of what?”
“Losing you.”
“Because of the Black Rose?”
“Because of everything.”
She reached for his hand.
“Adrian.”
He looked at her.
“I love you.”
He stopped breathing.
She smiled softly.
“I know it’s still strange for you.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I spent my entire life believing love was weakness.”
“Do you still believe that?”
“No.”
“What changed?”
He looked at her.
“You.”
She leaned closer.
“Good answer.”
He smiled.
Then his phone rang.
Adrian answered.
“Yes?”
Silence.
His expression changed.
“Where?”
Seraphina watched him.
“How long?”
Another pause.
“Don’t touch anything.”
He ended the call.
“What happened?”
“Someone broke into my father’s old office.”
“Was anything stolen?”
“We don’t know.”
“Then why do you look like that?”
Adrian stared at the road.
“Because the office was supposed to be sealed.”
“Who entered?”
“I don’t know.”
“Then we need to go back.”
“No.”
“Adrian.”
“We’re going to the mountain house.”
“But—”
“I said no.”
Seraphina’s temper rose.
“You don’t get to make every decision.”
“I’m trying to protect you.”
“Stop using that excuse.”
“It’s not an excuse.”
“Then what is it?”
Adrian pulled the car to the side of the road.
He turned toward her.
“Do you want to know what happens when I fail to protect someone?”
His voice was low.
Seraphina became silent.
“My brother dies.”
She froze.
“Adrian…”
“I promised him I would protect him.”
He looked away.
“I failed.”
“That wasn’t your fault.”
“Maybe not.”
His eyes became distant.
“But I still remember the phone call.”
Seraphina reached for him.
He continued.
“I remember someone telling me he was dead.”
His voice broke.
“I remember arriving at the hospital.”
She felt tears in her eyes.
“He was already gone.”
Adrian closed his eyes.
“And I promised myself…”
He looked at her.
“Never again.”
Seraphina touched his face.
“You don’t have to protect me from everything.”
“Yes, I do.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“Adrian.”
“Because I love you.”
The words stopped her.
He had never said it like that.
Not before.
Not with such desperation.
She leaned closer.
“You can’t protect me from life.”
“I can try.”
“And what happens when you fail?”
He stared at her.
“You’ll still be here.”
She kissed him.
A gentle kiss.
A promise.
When they pulled apart…
Seraphina whispered,
“You don’t have to be my shield.”
“What do I have to be?”
“My partner.”
Adrian looked at her.
“That’s all?”
“That’s everything.”
The mountain estate appeared just before sunset.
It was surrounded by forests.
No neighbors.
No roads nearby.
Only mountains.
Snow.
Silence.
Seraphina stepped from the car.
She looked around.
“It’s beautiful.”
Adrian stood beside her.
“Welcome home.”
She turned.
“Home?”
He seemed surprised by his own words.
Seraphina smiled.
“Did you just call this home?”
“No.”
“You did.”
“I didn’t.”
“You definitely did.”
“Stop.”
She laughed.
He rolled his eyes.
But there was a smile on his face.
Inside, the house was warm.
A fireplace burned in the living room.
Adrian showed her the bedrooms.
Seraphina stopped.
“One room?”
“Yes.”
She stared at him.
“You’re joking.”
“No.”
“We’re sleeping in separate rooms.”
“There’s only one bedroom.”
“Then you sleep on the couch.”
Adrian looked at the couch.
Then at her.
“Fine.”
“Good.”
“Enjoy your victory.”
“I will.”
That night…
Adrian slept on the couch.
Seraphina slept in the bedroom.
Or tried to.
She couldn’t.
Something felt wrong.
The house was too quiet.
She got out of bed.
She walked downstairs.
Adrian was asleep on the couch.
His arm was covering his eyes.
For the first time…
He looked peaceful.
Seraphina stood there.
Watching him.
She had never imagined this man could look so vulnerable.
She quietly walked closer.
Then noticed something.
A scar.
On his wrist.
She gently touched it.
Adrian woke immediately.
His hand caught hers.
Seraphina jumped.
“Sorry.”
He released her.
“What are you doing?”
“Nothing.”
“You were touching my scar.”
“I was looking.”
“Why?”
“Curious.”
“Don’t be.”
She sat beside him.
“How did you get it?”
“Old injury.”
“From what?”
“Nothing.”
“You’re lying.”
“Yes.”
She sighed.
“Do you ever tell the truth?”
“Sometimes.”
“Not about yourself.”
“No.”
“Why?”
Adrian looked at her.
“Because people leave when they know too much.”
Her heart broke.
“I won’t.”
“You don’t know that.”
“I do.”
“How?”
She took his hand.
“Because I already know the worst thing about you.”
He looked at her.
“What?”
She smiled.
“You’re incredibly annoying.”
He laughed.
She leaned against him.
His body stiffened.
Then slowly…
He relaxed.
They sat together.
Quietly.
For the first time…
They didn’t need words.
But then Seraphina noticed the scar again.
“Adrian.”
“Yes?”
“That isn’t an old injury.”
His expression changed.
“What?”
“Your scar.”
She touched it.
“Someone did this to you.”
Silence.
“Who?”
“Seraphina.”
“Tell me.”
“Not tonight.”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t want to remember.”
She moved closer.
“Then don’t.”
He looked at her.
“How?”
“Look at me.”
He did.
“I’m here.”
Something broke inside his expression.
He pulled her into his arms.
And Seraphina held him.
She didn’t ask again.
Not that night.
The next morning…
Adrian disappeared.
Seraphina woke to an empty house.
“Adrian?”
No answer.
She searched the rooms.
Nothing.
His phone was gone.
His car was gone.
Her heart began racing.
She called him.
No answer.
Again.
Nothing.
Then she found something on the kitchen table.
A black rose.
And a note.
Her hands trembled.
She opened it.
HE’S GONE BECAUSE OF YOU.
Seraphina froze.
Below it…
COME ALONE.
She dropped the paper.
“No.”
She immediately called Adrian again.
Still nothing.
She called his security team.
No answer.
Fear spread through her body.
Then her phone rang.
Unknown number.
She answered.
“Hello?”
A voice spoke.
“Do you want your husband back?”
Seraphina froze.
“Where is he?”
“Come alone.”
“Who are you?”
“You know.”
“No.”
A laugh.
“You’ve known me your entire life.”
Seraphina’s blood ran cold.
“Uncle?”
Silence.
Then the voice laughed.
“Good girl.”
Her heart stopped.
“Where is Adrian?”
“Safe.”
“If you hurt him—”
“You’ll do what?”
“I’ll kill you.”
The man laughed.
“You sound just like your father.”
Seraphina’s blood ran cold.
“Where is he?”
“Come to the old Vale estate.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s time you learned the truth.”
The call ended.
Seraphina stood frozen.
Then she saw something.
A photograph on the table.
Adrian.
Bound to a chair.
Blood on his face.
Her heart shattered.
“No.”
She grabbed her coat.
She was leaving.
Alone.
Just as the message demanded.
The old Vale estate had been abandoned for years.
Seraphina arrived at sunset.
The house stood in darkness.
She stepped inside.
“Uncle?”
Her voice echoed.
“Where is Adrian?”
No answer.
She moved deeper into the house.
Then she heard a voice.
“Hello, Seraphina.”
She froze.
Her uncle stepped from the shadows.
He looked older.
But his eyes were the same.
Cold.
Cruel.
Unforgiving.
“You.”
He smiled.
“Welcome home.”
“Where is Adrian?”
“Still worried about your husband?”
“Where is he?”
“Safe.”
“Show me.”
“Not yet.”
Seraphina moved closer.
“You killed my father.”
His smile disappeared.
“Your father was a fool.”
“Answer me.”
“He betrayed me.”
“He was your brother.”
“And?”
“How could you?”
“How could I?”
He laughed.
“You’ve been asking the wrong question your entire life.”
“What question?”
“Why did he die?”
Seraphina stared.
“Why?”
“Because he chose you.”
Her heart stopped.
“What?”
“Your father could have lived.”
“You’re lying.”
“He had a choice.”
“What choice?”
“Give me the Black Rose.”
“What?”
“The organization.”
Seraphina froze.
“My father was its leader?”
“No.”
“Then what?”
“He knew how to destroy it.”
Her uncle smiled.
“And he refused to tell me.”
“Why?”
“Because he believed he could protect you.”
Seraphina felt tears in her eyes.
“And you killed him.”
“Yes.”
The word was cold.
Without regret.
Seraphina’s entire body trembled.
“Where is Adrian?”
Her uncle smiled.
“Still thinking about him.”
“Yes.”
“Even after what his family did to yours?”
“You did it.”
He laughed.
“You love him.”
She didn’t answer.
He stepped closer.
“That’s your weakness.”
“No.”
She stared at him.
“That’s your mistake.”
His smile faded.
“You think love makes you strong?”
“It does.”
“You sound like your father.”
“Good.”
Her uncle’s eyes turned cold.
“Then you will die like him.”
A door opened behind her.
Seraphina turned.
Adrian stood there.
Her heart stopped.
“Adrian!”
He looked at her.
He was bruised.
Blood covered his lip.
But he was alive.
Seraphina ran toward him.
Her uncle laughed.
“How touching.”
Adrian pulled her behind him.
“Don’t touch her.”
His uncle smiled.
“Still protecting her.”
Adrian’s eyes were filled with rage.
“You’ll never touch her again.”
“You’re very brave.”
“Try me.”
Seraphina grabbed his arm.
“Adrian.”
He looked at her.
“I’m okay.”
“You were kidnapped.”
“I escaped.”
“How?”
“Later.”
Her uncle laughed.
“You two are pathetic.”
Adrian looked at him.
“You lost.”
“Did I?”
The room became silent.
His uncle reached into his coat.
Adrian immediately moved.
But the man didn’t pull out a gun.
He pulled out a photograph.
He threw it toward Seraphina.
She caught it.
Her blood ran cold.
It showed her father.
Standing beside her uncle.
But that wasn’t the worst part.
Behind them…
Was Adrian’s father.
And her mother.
All four were together.
Seraphina stared.
“What is this?”
Her uncle smiled.
“Your mother was never innocent.”
Seraphina looked at him.
“You said she helped you.”
“She did.”
Adrian’s expression changed.
“Why?”
Her uncle laughed.
“Ask her.”
Seraphina’s heart dropped.
“What?”
“Ask your mother who ordered Michael Vale’s death.”
“No.”
“Ask her.”
“No.”
“She did.”
Seraphina shook her head.
“You’re lying.”
“Your mother gave me the order.”
Silence.
Adrian looked at Seraphina.
She couldn’t breathe.
“Why?”
Her uncle smiled.
“Because she wanted your father dead.”
Seraphina felt the world disappear.
“Why?”
“Because he was going to expose her.”
“Expose what?”
“The truth.”
“Which truth?”
Her uncle stepped closer.
“The truth about your birth.”
Seraphina froze.
“What?”
Adrian grabbed her hand.
“Don’t listen to him.”
Her uncle laughed.
“Oh, you don’t know?”
“Know what?”
He looked at Adrian.
Then at Seraphina.
“Your parents weren’t married when you were born.”
Seraphina stared.
“What does that matter?”
“It matters because Michael Vale wasn’t your biological father.”
The world stopped.
Seraphina couldn’t breathe.
Adrian stared at her.
Her uncle smiled.
“Your real father…”
He paused.
“…was Richard Blackwood.”
Silence.
Adrian’s face turned pale.
“No.”
Seraphina stepped backward.
“No.”
Her uncle continued.
“Your mother had an affair with Richard.”
“You’re lying.”
“Ask her.”
“You’re lying!”
“You and Adrian…”
He smiled.
“…are not enemies because your families hated each other.”
Seraphina couldn’t move.
“You’re enemies because you are half-siblings.”
“No.”
She screamed.
“NO!”
Adrian looked at her.
His eyes were filled with horror.
Seraphina shook her head.
“No.”
Her uncle laughed.
“Now you understand.”
Adrian stepped toward her.
“Seraphina.”
She stepped away.
“No.”
“Listen to me.”
“No!”
Her uncle smiled.
“Love destroyed them.”
Seraphina couldn’t breathe.
Her entire body was shaking.
Everything they had shared.
Every kiss.
Every word.
Every promise.
Every moment.
No.
It couldn’t be true.
Adrian looked at her.
His voice broke.
“Seraphina…”
She looked at him.
And in his eyes…
She saw the same terror she felt.
Her uncle walked away.
“Ask your mother.”
Then he disappeared.
Leaving them alone.
Two people who had fallen in love.
Two people who had believed they were enemies.
Two people who now feared the most terrible possibility imaginable.
Seraphina backed away.
“Adrian.”
“Don’t.”
“Maybe he’s lying.”
“I know.”
“But—”
“I know.”
“Then say it.”
He looked at her.
“Say what?”
“That we’re not related.”
Adrian’s eyes filled with tears.
“I don’t know.”
Her heart broke.
She turned away.
“Seraphina.”
“Don’t.”
“Please.”
“I can’t.”
“Look at me.”
“I can’t.”
“Please.”
She looked at him.
His face was broken.
And suddenly…
She realized something.
Even if they were enemies…
Even if they were strangers…
Even if the world wanted to tear them apart…
She loved him.
And that love terrified her more than anything.
She whispered,
“I love you.”
Adrian closed his eyes.
“I love you too.”
“And if it’s true?”
He opened his eyes.
“We’ll survive it.”
“How?”
“I don’t know.”
She began crying.
“Adrian…”
He stepped toward her.
She stepped away.
“I can’t.”
“Don’t leave me.”
His voice broke.
She froze.
He had never sounded afraid before.
Not like this.
“Don’t leave me.”
She looked at him.
“I don’t know what to do.”
“Neither do I.”
“I don’t want to lose you.”
“You won’t.”
“But what if—”
“We’ll find the truth.”
“How?”
“Together.”
She looked at him.
Even now…
He was still choosing her.
Even when the possibility of losing everything stood between them.
She stepped forward.
He held her.
And they cried together.
Not because they knew the truth.
But because they were terrified of what it might be.
Hours later…
They returned to the mansion.
Neither spoke.
Seraphina went directly to her mother’s house.
Adrian followed.
They found her sitting in the living room.
She looked at them.
And immediately knew.
“What happened?”
Seraphina walked toward her.
“Tell me the truth.”
Her mother froze.
“About what?”
“Richard.”
Silence.
“Is he my father?”
Her mother began crying.
Adrian stepped forward.
“Answer her.”
Her mother looked at him.
Then at Seraphina.
“No.”
Seraphina’s heart stopped.
“No?”
“No.”
“He’s lying?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because he wants to destroy you.”
Seraphina collapsed into a chair.
“Then who is my father?”
Her mother looked at her.
“Michael.”
Seraphina couldn’t breathe.
“My father?”
“Yes.”
“You’re sure?”
Her mother nodded.
“I swear.”
Adrian closed his eyes.
Relief.
Pure relief.
Seraphina began crying.
Her mother rushed toward her.
But Seraphina stopped her.
“Why did you let him say it?”
Her mother looked confused.
“What?”
“Why did you let him believe it?”
“I didn’t know.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I was afraid.”
“Of what?”
Her mother looked at Adrian.
“Of losing you.”
Seraphina stared.
“That’s not an answer.”
Her mother sat.
“There is something else.”
Seraphina froze.
“What?”
Her mother took a deep breath.
“Your uncle wasn’t lying about everything.”
Adrian’s expression changed.
“What do you mean?”
Her mother looked at them.
“Michael wasn’t your biological father.”
Seraphina’s heart stopped.
“But you said—”
“I said he was your father.”
“Biologically?”
“No.”
Silence.
“Then who?”
Her mother whispered,
“Your father was a man named Daniel Vale.”
Seraphina froze.
“Who?”
“Michael’s brother.”
Adrian stared.
“Then why did everyone call Michael her father?”
“Because Daniel died before she was born.”
Seraphina couldn’t breathe.
“Why didn’t I know?”
“Because Michael raised you.”
“Why?”
“Because he promised Daniel.”
Her mother began crying.
“He promised to protect his daughter.”
Seraphina’s eyes filled with tears.
“Then who killed Daniel?”
Her mother looked at her.
“Your uncle.”
Silence.
Adrian stepped forward.
“Why?”
“Because Daniel discovered the Black Rose.”
Seraphina closed her eyes.
Everything was connected.
Her uncle.
The Black Rose.
Her father’s death.
Adrian’s brother.
Their families.
All of it.
But there was one question remaining.
“Why did my father and your father make us enemies?”
Adrian looked at her.
His mother answered.
“Because they knew your uncle would eventually discover that you were both investigating the Black Rose.”
Seraphina whispered,
“So they made us hate each other.”
“Yes.”
“To protect us.”
“Yes.”
Adrian looked at Seraphina.
“And now?”
Her mother looked at them.
“Now he knows.”
“Who?”
“Your uncle.”
She shook her head.
“He knows you are together.”
Seraphina held Adrian’s hand.
Her mother stared at them.
“And he will not stop until one of you is dead.”
Adrian tightened his grip around Seraphina’s fingers.
Seraphina looked at him.
There was fear in his eyes.
But beneath the fear…
There was something stronger.
Determination.
She stepped closer.
“We’re going to end this.”
Adrian nodded.
“Together.”
Her mother looked terrified.
“You don’t understand.”
“Then explain.”
Her mother whispered,
“The Black Rose isn’t just your uncle.”
Seraphina froze.
“What?”
“The organization is much bigger.”
“How big?”
Her mother looked toward the window.
“Governments.”
“Businesses.”
“Police.”
“Judges.”
“People who have been controlling everything.”
Adrian’s expression darkened.
“And the leader?”
Her mother looked at him.
“I don’t know.”
“Then who does?”
She hesitated.
“Your uncle.”
Seraphina’s heart dropped.
“He knows?”
“Yes.”
“Then we find him.”
Her mother shook her head.
“You can’t.”
“Why?”
“Because he already knows where you will go.”
Adrian looked at Seraphina.
“Where?”
Her mother whispered,
“The place where it all began.”
Seraphina’s heart stopped.
“Where?”
“The old Vale factory.”
Adrian froze.
“Why?”
“Because that’s where Michael died.”
Silence.
Seraphina remembered.
The blood.
The stairs.
Her father’s eyes.
The night she had spent fifteen years trying to forget.
Adrian took her hand.
“We’re going.”
Her mother grabbed her arm.
“No.”
Seraphina looked at her.
“Why?”
“Because that’s where your uncle wants you.”
“Then that’s where we’ll go.”
Her mother began crying.
“Seraphina, please.”
Seraphina looked at Adrian.
He didn’t try to stop her.
He simply held her hand.
She turned back to her mother.
“I’m tired of running.”
Her voice was steady.
“I’ve spent my whole life being afraid of a man I barely knew.”
She looked at Adrian.
“And I’ve spent half my life hating the wrong family.”
Her fingers tightened around his.
“I’m done.”
Adrian nodded.
“So am I.”
That night…
They stood outside the abandoned Vale factory.
The building was dark.
Broken windows.
Rusting doors.
Silence.
Seraphina stood beside Adrian.
She was terrified.
But she wasn’t alone.
Adrian reached for her hand.
She took it.
“Ready?”
“No.”
He smiled.
“Good.”
“Good?”
“Neither am I.”
She laughed softly.
Then the doors opened.
They stepped inside.
The smell hit Seraphina immediately.
Dust.
Metal.
Blood.
Memory.
Her heart began racing.
“This is where it happened.”
Adrian looked at her.
“Yes.”
She closed her eyes.
“I can remember.”
“Don’t.”
“I have to.”
She opened her eyes.
“I need to remember.”
They walked deeper.
Then they saw it.
A chair.
A pool of dried blood.
And on the wall…
A black rose.
Seraphina stopped.
Adrian stood beside her.
Then a voice came from the darkness.
“Welcome home.”
Her uncle stepped forward.
But he wasn’t alone.
Behind him stood five men.
And among them…
Was a face Seraphina recognized.
She stopped breathing.
Adrian followed her gaze.
His expression changed.
“No.”
Seraphina whispered,
“That’s impossible.”
The man smiled.
He had been dead for eight years.
Everyone believed he was dead.
But he stood there.
Alive.
Adrian’s brother.
Alexander.
Adrian couldn’t move.
“Alex?”
Alexander smiled.
“Hello, brother.”
Seraphina stared.
Adrian’s entire world collapsed.
“You died.”
Alexander laughed.
“No.”
“You were in the car.”
“I survived.”
“The accident.”
“Was fake.”
Adrian stepped forward.
“Why?”
Alexander looked at him.
“Because I was working for the Black Rose.”
Silence.
Seraphina’s heart stopped.
Adrian shook his head.
“No.”
Alexander smiled.
“I was the one who betrayed your father.”
Adrian’s eyes filled with tears.
“You killed him?”
“No.”
“Then who?”
Alexander looked toward Seraphina.
“Her uncle.”
Seraphina froze.
Alexander continued.
“But I helped him.”
Adrian stepped backward.
“Why?”
“Because I had no choice.”
“Everyone has a choice.”
Alexander’s expression darkened.
“Not when the person you love is being held hostage.”
Adrian froze.
“Who?”
Alexander looked at Seraphina.
“Your mother.”
Seraphina’s heart stopped.
“What?”
Alexander’s eyes filled with pain.
“The Black Rose has your mother.”
Seraphina couldn’t breathe.
“But she’s here.”
“No.”
She turned.
Her mother was standing behind them.
Seraphina froze.
“Mom?”
Her mother looked terrified.
Alexander shook his head.
“That’s not your mother.”
The woman smiled.
Her face changed.
A mask.
She removed it.
Seraphina screamed.
It wasn’t her mother.
It was a stranger.
Adrian immediately pulled Seraphina behind him.
Alexander looked at them.
“Your real mother…”
He paused.
“…is still alive.”
Seraphina’s world shattered.
“Where?”
Alexander looked toward her uncle.
The man smiled.
“Somewhere you’ll never find her.”
Seraphina stepped forward.
“You will tell me.”
Her uncle laughed.
“Or what?”
She looked at Adrian.
Then at Alexander.
Then at the men surrounding them.
And finally…
She smiled.
A cold, fearless smile.
“Or we destroy you.”
Her uncle’s laughter stopped.
Adrian looked at her.
Seraphina took his hand.
“We’re not afraid anymore.”
Her uncle’s eyes narrowed.
“Then you will die together.”
Seraphina squeezed Adrian’s hand.
He squeezed back.
And for the first time…
They stood on the same side.
Not as enemies.
Not as husband and wife bound by a contract.
But as two people who had chosen each other.
Whatever happened next…
They would face it together.
Because love had not made them weak.
It had made them fearless.
And somewhere deep inside the darkness…
The Black Rose was finally beginning to understand.
It had spent twenty years creating enemies.
But in the end…
It had accidentally created something far more dangerous.
Two hearts that refused to surrender.
To be continued…
