THE WAR BETWEEN BLOOD AND LOVE
THE ENEMY I COULDN’T STOP LOVING · July 23, 2026
The room was silent.
Not peaceful.
Not calm.
It was the kind of silence that came before a storm.
Seraphina stood beside Adrian with her fingers tightly intertwined with his.
Across the old factory stood the man who had destroyed both their families.
Her uncle.
Behind him were the men of the Black Rose.
And beside them…
Alexander.
Adrian’s dead brother.
The man Adrian had mourned for eight years.
The man whose grave he had visited every year.
The man whose death had shaped his entire life.
Alive.
Seraphina looked at Adrian.
His face had become unreadable.
Too still.
She knew that expression now.
It was the face he wore when his emotions became too painful to show.
“Adrian.”
He didn’t answer.
She squeezed his hand.
He finally looked at her.
“Don’t let him break you.”
His eyes softened.
“How do I not?”
“Look at me.”
He did.
“Just look at me.”
He stared into her eyes.
For a few seconds, the rest of the world disappeared.
Then Seraphina whispered,
“Whatever happens, I’m here.”
Adrian’s fingers tightened around hers.
“You’re not leaving.”
“Never.”
“Promise?”
She nodded.
“I promise.”
A slow clap interrupted them.
Her uncle smiled.
“How beautiful.”
Adrian’s expression hardened.
“Shut up.”
“Still arrogant.”
“Still alive.”
His uncle’s smile disappeared.
“Careful, boy.”
“You’ve already taken my family.”
Adrian stepped forward.
“My father.”
“My brother.”
“My childhood.”
“My peace.”
He pointed toward him.
“You don’t get to take anything else.”
His uncle laughed.
“You think you understand what happened?”
“I know enough.”
“No.”
His uncle stepped closer.
“You know the version your father wanted you to know.”
“Then tell me the truth.”
“I will.”
He turned toward Alexander.
“Your brother knows it.”
Adrian looked at Alexander.
“Then let him speak.”
Alexander remained silent.
“Alex.”
The older man looked at him.
Adrian’s voice broke.
“Look at me.”
Alexander slowly raised his eyes.
“Tell me.”
No answer.
“Tell me why you disappeared.”
Alexander’s jaw tightened.
“I couldn’t.”
“Couldn’t what?”
“Come home.”
“Why?”
“Because I was being watched.”
“By whom?”
“The Black Rose.”
Adrian laughed bitterly.
“You worked for them.”
“I infiltrated them.”
Adrian froze.
Alexander looked at him.
“I didn’t betray you.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because they would have killed you.”
“You let me believe you were dead!”
“I had no choice.”
“You always had a choice!”
Alexander flinched.
Adrian’s voice became louder.
“I buried you!”
His eyes filled with tears.
“I stood beside your grave.”
Alexander looked away.
“I know.”
“You know?”
“I watched.”
Adrian froze.
“What?”
“I watched you at my funeral.”
The words destroyed him.
Alexander’s voice trembled.
“You cried for me.”
Adrian stared.
“I wanted to come to you.”
“Then why didn’t you?”
“Because the moment I stepped forward, you would have died.”
Silence.
Seraphina looked at Alexander.
“Who was being held hostage?”
Alexander looked at her.
“Your mother.”
Seraphina’s heart stopped.
“But she was with me.”
“That wasn’t her.”
“I know.”
“Your real mother has been imprisoned for years.”
Seraphina’s breathing became uneven.
“Where?”
Alexander looked toward her uncle.
“He knows.”
Her uncle smiled.
“You don’t need to know.”
Seraphina stepped forward.
“I’ll find her.”
“You won’t.”
“I will.”
“You’re too much like your father.”
“Thank you.”
His expression changed.
Seraphina smiled coldly.
“That was a compliment.”
Adrian moved beside her.
“Enough.”
Her uncle laughed.
“Do you really think you can defeat me?”
Adrian’s eyes were cold.
“No.”
He looked around.
“We don’t need to.”
His uncle frowned.
Adrian raised his phone.
“Because the police are already on their way.”
Everyone froze.
Seraphina stared at him.
“What?”
Adrian looked at her.
“I called them before we entered.”
Her uncle’s face changed.
“You wouldn’t.”
“I did.”
“You have no evidence.”
Adrian smiled.
“Actually…”
He looked toward Alexander.
“We have everything.”
Alexander’s expression changed.
Adrian held up a small device.
“Your brother helped me.”
Seraphina stared.
“Alexander?”
Adrian nodded.
“He gave me the files.”
Alexander looked at his brother.
“I told you.”
“Told me what?”
“That I never betrayed you.”
Adrian’s eyes filled with tears.
Alexander smiled sadly.
“I was trying to save you.”
Adrian stared at him.
For eight years…
He had hated himself.
Believed he had failed his brother.
Believed he had failed his family.
And now…
The truth was standing in front of him.
Alive.
He walked toward Alexander.
Alexander didn’t move.
Adrian stopped.
Then he punched him.
Seraphina gasped.
Alexander stumbled.
Adrian grabbed his shirt.
“You bastard.”
Alexander didn’t fight back.
“You let me mourn you.”
“I know.”
“You let me hate myself.”
“I know.”
“You let me believe I wasn’t enough to save you.”
Alexander’s eyes filled with tears.
“I know.”
Adrian’s grip loosened.
Then he hugged him.
Alexander froze.
Adrian held him tightly.
His brother’s arms slowly wrapped around him.
And then…
Both men broke down.
Seraphina watched them.
Two brothers.
Separated by lies.
Reunited by truth.
She wiped her tears.
But her uncle suddenly pulled out a gun.
“Enough!”
Everything stopped.
He pointed the gun at Seraphina.
Adrian immediately stepped in front of her.
“Put it down.”
“Move.”
“No.”
“I said move.”
Adrian stared at him.
“You’ll have to shoot me first.”
Seraphina grabbed Adrian’s arm.
“No.”
He looked back.
“Stay behind me.”
“No.”
“Seraphina.”
“I said no.”
She stepped beside him.
“If he shoots…”
She looked at her uncle.
“He shoots both of us.”
Adrian stared at her.
Her uncle laughed.
“You think your love makes you powerful?”
Seraphina shook her head.
“No.”
She looked at Adrian.
“It makes us impossible to control.”
Her uncle’s face twisted with rage.
“You don’t know what love is.”
“Maybe not.”
She smiled.
“But I know what fear is.”
She looked directly at him.
“And I’m done being afraid of you.”
The sound of sirens echoed outside.
Her uncle’s face changed.
He turned.
Men began running.
Chaos erupted.
Adrian grabbed Seraphina.
“Run!”
They moved through the factory.
Gunshots echoed.
Alexander fought one of the guards.
Adrian pulled Seraphina toward a side exit.
“Where’s your uncle?”
“I don’t know.”
They reached the outside.
Police cars surrounded the building.
Seraphina looked back.
“Adrian!”
“What?”
“Alexander!”
They turned.
Alexander was still inside.
Adrian ran back.
“Adrian!”
She followed.
They entered the building again.
Smoke filled the hallway.
“Alexander!”
No answer.
Then they heard a gunshot.
Seraphina screamed.
“Adrian!”
He ran toward the sound.
She followed.
They found Alexander lying on the floor.
Blood covered his shirt.
Adrian dropped beside him.
“Alex!”
Alexander opened his eyes.
“Go.”
“No.”
“Adrian.”
“I’m not leaving you again.”
Alexander smiled weakly.
“You’re still stubborn.”
“And you’re still an idiot.”
Seraphina knelt beside them.
“Where’s your uncle?”
Alexander pointed.
“Basement.”
Adrian looked toward the stairs.
“Stay here.”
Seraphina grabbed him.
“No.”
“Seraphina.”
“I’m coming.”
“You can’t.”
“Try to stop me.”
He stared.
Then sighed.
“Fine.”
Alexander laughed weakly.
“She scares you.”
Adrian looked at him.
“More than anyone.”
Seraphina smiled.
“Good.”
The basement was dark.
Cold.
Wet.
The smell of blood filled the air.
Seraphina held Adrian’s hand.
“Do you hear that?”
He stopped.
A faint sound.
Someone crying.
Seraphina’s heart raced.
“Mom?”
They followed the sound.
A locked door.
Adrian broke it open.
Inside…
A woman sat on the floor.
Weak.
Thin.
Her hair was white.
Seraphina froze.
The woman looked up.
Their eyes met.
Seraphina stopped breathing.
“Mom?”
The woman began crying.
“Seraphina.”
Her voice.
It was her voice.
The voice Seraphina remembered from childhood.
The woman who had held her when she was sick.
The woman who had disappeared when Seraphina was eight.
The woman everyone had told her was dead.
Her mother.
Alive.
Seraphina ran.
She fell into her arms.
“Mom!”
Her mother held her.
“My baby.”
Seraphina cried.
“You were alive.”
“I’m sorry.”
“You were alive!”
“I tried to come back.”
“Why didn’t you?”
“They wouldn’t let me.”
“Who?”
Her mother looked at Adrian.
“Your uncle.”
Seraphina held her tighter.
“I thought you were dead.”
“I know.”
“I hated you.”
Her mother cried.
“I know.”
“I thought you left me.”
“Never.”
“Why?”
“Because I loved you.”
Seraphina sobbed.
“Then why?”
“Because your uncle threatened you.”
“How?”
“He told me that if I escaped, he would kill you.”
Seraphina closed her eyes.
“All these years…”
Her mother nodded.
“I watched you from a distance.”
“How?”
“Through Alexander.”
Seraphina froze.
She looked at Adrian.
Alexander.
“He protected you too.”
Adrian’s expression changed.
“He did?”
“Yes.”
His eyes filled with tears.
“Why didn’t he tell me?”
“Because he knew you would try to save me.”
Seraphina’s mother looked at Adrian.
“And he was right.”
Adrian shook his head.
“He should have trusted me.”
“He was trying to protect you.”
“Everyone keeps saying that.”
Seraphina touched his hand.
“Because it’s true.”
He looked at her.
She smiled.
“You’re surrounded by people who love you.”
Adrian stared at her.
“I don’t know how to handle that.”
“Learn.”
She kissed his cheek.
“You’re stuck with us.”
For the first time…
Adrian smiled.
They escaped the factory.
The police arrested several members of the Black Rose.
But her uncle was gone.
He had escaped.
The war wasn’t over.
Not yet.
But they had won something more important.
They had found Seraphina’s mother.
And Alexander.
For the first time in years…
Both families were beginning to heal.
But healing wasn’t easy.
The truth was painful.
Seraphina’s mother had been imprisoned for years.
Alexander had lived under a false identity.
Adrian had carried guilt that wasn’t his.
And Seraphina had spent half her life hating people who had never been her enemies.
But now…
They had each other.
And sometimes…
That was enough to begin again.
Three days later…
Seraphina stood outside the hospital room.
Adrian was inside with Alexander.
She watched them through the glass.
Adrian sat beside his brother.
Neither spoke.
Alexander looked at him.
“Do you hate me?”
Adrian shook his head.
“I tried.”
“Did it work?”
“No.”
Alexander smiled.
“I deserve it.”
“Maybe.”
Adrian looked away.
“Why did you really do it?”
Alexander became silent.
“The truth.”
“I told you.”
“No.”
Adrian looked at him.
“The real truth.”
Alexander sighed.
“I was afraid.”
“Of what?”
“Losing you.”
Adrian’s expression changed.
“Alex.”
“I knew the Black Rose would come after you.”
“So you disappeared.”
“Yes.”
“You should have told me.”
“I know.”
“You’re an idiot.”
“I know.”
Adrian laughed.
Then his eyes became serious.
“You don’t have to protect me anymore.”
Alexander looked at him.
“Why?”
“Because I have someone else now.”
He looked toward the door.
Seraphina.
Alexander smiled.
“Seraphina.”
“Yes.”
“You’re in love with her.”
“Yes.”
“Does she know?”
Adrian laughed.
“She tells me every day.”
Alexander shook his head.
“You’re lucky.”
Adrian looked toward Seraphina.
“Yes.”
He was.
More than he had ever realized.
That evening…
Seraphina sat beside her mother.
They were finally alone.
“I have questions.”
Her mother nodded.
“I know.”
“Why did you leave me?”
“I didn’t.”
“Then why did you disappear?”
“Your uncle took me.”
“Why?”
“Because I knew too much.”
“About the Black Rose?”
“Yes.”
“Did you love my father?”
Her mother smiled sadly.
“Michael?”
Seraphina nodded.
“Yes.”
“Then why did you let him die?”
“I didn’t.”
“Then who?”
Her mother looked down.
“Your uncle.”
“But he said—”
“He lied.”
“Why?”
“Because he wanted you to hate me.”
Seraphina’s heart sank.
“Why?”
“Because if you hated me…”
She paused.
“…you would trust him.”
Seraphina understood.
“That’s why he wanted us divided.”
“Yes.”
“Everyone.”
Her mother nodded.
“He has spent years destroying relationships.”
“Why?”
“Because people who love each other are dangerous.”
Seraphina thought of Adrian.
“So he separated everyone.”
“Yes.”
“Your father from me.”
“Yes.”
“Your father from Adrian’s father.”
“Yes.”
“Alexander from Adrian.”
“Yes.”
Seraphina looked toward the window.
“But he made one mistake.”
Her mother smiled.
“What?”
“He couldn’t stop us from finding each other.”
Her mother looked at her.
“Seraphina.”
“Yes?”
“Do you love him?”
Seraphina smiled.
“More than I know how to explain.”
Her mother took her hand.
“Then don’t let anyone take him from you.”
“I won’t.”
Later that night…
Seraphina found Adrian standing outside.
Snow was falling.
He looked toward the mountains.
She walked behind him.
“Thinking?”
“Yes.”
“About?”
“Everything.”
She stood beside him.
“Are you okay?”
“No.”
She smiled.
“At least you’re honest.”
“I’m trying.”
She leaned against him.
“What are you thinking?”
“That my brother is alive.”
“That’s good.”
“Yes.”
“Your father wasn’t responsible for what happened.”
“Yes.”
“Your family wasn’t my enemy.”
“No.”
“And my father wasn’t yours.”
“No.”
She looked at him.
“Then what are we?”
Adrian turned.
“Husband and wife.”
She smiled.
“Anything else?”
He stepped closer.
“Best friends.”
“Really?”
“Sometimes.”
She hit his arm.
“Hey!”
He laughed.
“Fine.”
“What?”
“You’re my home.”
Her smile disappeared.
“Adrian.”
“Yes?”
“Say that again.”
He touched her face.
“You’re my home.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“Why?”
“Because no matter where I go…”
He kissed her forehead.
“…I want to come back to you.”
She hugged him.
He held her tightly.
For a while…
There was only snow.
Only silence.
Only them.
But then Adrian’s phone rang.
He answered.
“Yes?”
His face changed.
Seraphina immediately knew.
“What?”
He ended the call.
“Who was it?”
“The police.”
“What happened?”
“They found something.”
“Where?”
“At my father’s old office.”
“What?”
“They found a hidden room.”
Seraphina’s heart began racing.
“What was inside?”
Adrian looked at her.
“Files.”
“About the Black Rose?”
“Yes.”
“What else?”
He hesitated.
“A list.”
“Of what?”
“Names.”
“Whose names?”
Adrian’s voice became quiet.
“Everyone connected to the Black Rose.”
Seraphina stared.
“Your uncle?”
“Yes.”
“My mother?”
“Yes.”
“Alexander?”
“Yes.”
She swallowed.
“Who else?”
Adrian looked at her.
“Your father.”
Seraphina froze.
“No.”
“Seraphina—”
“No.”
“Listen.”
“He wasn’t involved.”
“I know.”
“Then why is his name there?”
“I don’t know.”
She stepped away.
“What else?”
Adrian hesitated.
“Your name.”
Seraphina stopped.
“My name?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know.”
“What does it mean?”
Adrian shook his head.
“We’ll find out.”
Seraphina looked toward the mountains.
Something was wrong.
She could feel it.
The Black Rose wasn’t finished.
Not even close.
And then…
She remembered something.
A memory from childhood.
A memory she had buried.
The night her father died.
She had seen someone.
A man standing near the stairs.
A black rose pinned to his coat.
But it hadn’t been her uncle.
It had been someone else.
Someone she knew.
Someone she trusted.
Someone who had been there that night.
Seraphina looked at Adrian.
“There’s something I remember.”
“What?”
“The night my father died.”
Adrian waited.
“I saw someone.”
“Who?”
“I don’t know.”
“What did he look like?”
She closed her eyes.
“Black coat.”
“Anything else?”
“A ring.”
“What kind?”
She opened her eyes.
“A silver ring.”
Adrian froze.
“What?”
“A silver ring with a black stone.”
His face became pale.
“Adrian?”
He stepped backward.
“What’s wrong?”
He whispered,
“My father had one.”
Seraphina’s heart stopped.
“What?”
“My father.”
“Richard?”
“Yes.”
She stared at him.
“But he’s dead.”
“Yes.”
“Then—”
Adrian’s phone rang again.
He answered.
“Hello?”
Silence.
Then a voice.
Adrian’s face changed.
“Who is this?”
Seraphina watched.
He put the call on speaker.
A familiar voice filled the night.
Her uncle.
“Did you find the list?”
Adrian’s eyes narrowed.
“Where are you?”
“You’ll never find me.”
“Why did you call?”
“To tell you the truth.”
Seraphina stepped closer.
“What truth?”
The voice laughed.
“The truth about your fathers.”
Adrian’s expression darkened.
“What about them?”
“They didn’t die.”
Silence.
Seraphina’s heart stopped.
“What?”
Her uncle continued.
“Both of them are alive.”
Adrian dropped the phone.
Seraphina stared at him.
“Adrian…”
He looked at her.
His face was completely pale.
“That’s impossible.”
But then…
A message arrived on his phone.
One photograph.
Seraphina looked.
Two men.
Standing together.
Older.
Alive.
Her father.
And Adrian’s father.
Seraphina couldn’t breathe.
Below the photograph was a single sentence.
COME FIND US.
Then another message appeared.
IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHO REALLY STARTED THE BLACK ROSE.
Adrian looked at Seraphina.
She looked at him.
The truth they had spent their entire lives searching for…
Was alive.
Waiting.
And suddenly…
They understood.
The war wasn’t ending.
It was only beginning.
Because the people they had mourned…
The fathers they believed were dead…
Were alive.
And somewhere beyond the mountains…
They were waiting for their children.
To be continued…
