The Girl Who Remembers Tomorrow
THE LAST PLANETARY CLOCK · August 5, 2026
The first thing Arin Solace noticed was that the stars were wrong.
They were in the wrong places.
He knew the Helios Sector better than anyone. He had spent years repairing ships, studying maps, and watching the movements of distant planets from the lonely surface of Nerion-12.
But now the sky outside his underground chamber showed a completely different universe.
A universe that should not exist.
Arin slowly stood up.
The Chrono Engine was silent.
The strange galaxy trapped inside the clock had stopped moving.
But the woman from the future was still there.
Mira Kael.
The person who claimed he would destroy everything.
“Where are we?” Arin asked.
Mira looked around the chamber.
“Still on Nerion-12.”
Arin frowned.
“No.”
He pointed toward the clock.
“Something changed.”
Mira nodded.
“Yes.”
“What did you do?”
“I didn’t do anything.”
She looked at the Chrono Engine.
“The machine did.”
Arin stepped closer.
“What exactly is this thing?”
Mira’s expression became serious.
“The most dangerous invention humanity ever created.”
“The Chrono Engine?”
“Yes.”
Arin looked at the massive machine.
“My father worked on this.”
“I know.”
Arin turned sharply.
“How do you know about my father?”
Mira looked away.
“Because I knew him.”
The words shocked him.
“You knew my father?”
“Yes.”
“When?”
Mira hesitated.
“Before he disappeared.”
The chamber became quiet.
For years, Arin searched for information about his father.
Professor Elias Solace.
The scientist who helped create the Chrono Engine.
The man who vanished after the first time experiment failed.
Everyone said he died.
But Arin never found a body.
Never found proof.
Only a message.
Time does not break by accident.
“What happened to him?” Arin asked.
Mira looked at him.
“He discovered the truth.”
“What truth?”
“That the Chrono Engine was never meant to control time.”
Arin looked confused.
“Then what was it built for?”
Mira walked toward the machine.
“To observe possible futures.”
She touched the surface.
“But someone changed its purpose.”
“Who?”
Mira’s eyes became darker.
“Your future self.”
Arin stepped back.
“No.”
Mira remained silent.
“I don’t believe you.”
“You should not.”
Her answer surprised him.
“What?”
Mira looked at him.
“Trust is dangerous when time is involved.”
Arin studied her.
“You’re telling me I become a monster.”
“No.”
“Then what?”
Mira looked toward the clock.
“You become someone who believes he is saving everyone.”
Arin said nothing.
Because deep down…
That sounded worse.
Suddenly, Kiro activated.
The small robot floated upward.
“Warning. New timeline data detected.”
Arin looked at him.
“What does that mean?”
Kiro scanned the Chrono Engine.
“There are now three recorded versions of reality.”
Mira nodded.
“Exactly.”
Arin looked confused.
“Three?”
“Yes.”
Mira explained.
“The original timeline.”
She raised one finger.
“The timeline where Earth disappeared.”
A second finger.
“The timeline where I came from.”
A third finger.
“And this one.”
Arin stared.
“This timeline didn’t exist before?”
“No.”
“Then why are we here?”
Mira looked at him.
“Because someone changed it.”
A sudden noise came from above.
A deep mechanical sound.
Arin checked his scanner.
A ship had landed on the surface.
Mira immediately became alert.
“No.”
Arin noticed.
“What?”
“They found us.”
“Who?”
Before she could answer, a transmission appeared.
A cold voice filled the chamber.
“Arin Solace.”
His face changed.
The voice knew his name.
“Come out peacefully.”
Mira whispered:
“The Chrono Guardians.”
Arin looked at her.
“Who are they?”
“The protectors of time.”
“That sounds good.”
Mira shook her head.
“They were created to protect time.”
A pause.
“Then they decided they should control it.”
The underground entrance exploded.
Armored soldiers entered the chamber.
Their suits were covered with glowing blue lines.
The leader walked forward.
A tall man with silver armor and emotionless eyes.
“Arin Solace.”
Arin raised his weapon.
“Who are you?”
The man removed his helmet.
“My name is Commander Darian Voss.”
Mira’s expression changed.
She knew him.
“You’re alive.”
Darian looked at her.
“In your timeline, I wasn’t.”
Mira stepped back.
Arin noticed.
“You know him?”
“Yes.”
Darian smiled slightly.
“She knows many versions of me.”
Arin looked confused.
“What does that mean?”
Darian walked closer.
“Mira Kael is not a normal time traveler.”
Mira remained silent.
“She is a timeline survivor.”
Arin looked at her.
“What is that?”
Darian answered.
“Someone who remembers realities that no longer exist.”
Mira suddenly attacked.
She moved faster than Arin expected.
She grabbed a soldier’s weapon and disabled it instantly.
Arin stared.
“You can fight?”
Mira looked at him.
“I told you.”
“What?”
“I remember tomorrow.”
She moved behind cover as energy blasts filled the chamber.
Arin and Kiro followed.
The battle shook the ancient underground city.
But Darian did not attack.
He simply watched.
“Arin!”
Mira shouted.
“You need to leave!”
“Where?”
She looked at the Chrono Engine.
“Inside the clock.”
Arin stared.
“That is the worst idea I have ever heard.”
“It is the only idea.”
The Chrono Engine opened.
A doorway appeared inside the machine.
Not a door.
A passage through time.
Darian finally moved.
“You cannot run from your future.”
Arin looked at him.
“Maybe.”
He stepped toward the Chrono Engine.
“But I can change it.”
Inside the machine was not darkness.
It was a universe.
Thousands of timelines floated around them like glowing rivers.
Arin saw different versions of himself.
One was a scientist.
One was a soldier.
One was a king.
And one…
Was standing beside a destroyed universe.
Mira watched him.
“That is the future I saw.”
Arin looked at the ruined timeline.
“That’s me?”
“Yes.”
He looked away.
“Why would I do that?”
Mira answered softly:
“Because you were trying to save someone.”
Arin turned.
“Who?”
Mira’s eyes filled with sadness.
“Me.”
Before Arin could respond, the Chrono Engine closed behind them.
They were trapped between timelines.
And somewhere outside…
Commander Darian Voss smiled.
Because this was exactly what he wanted.
To be continued…
