Forever Beneath the Stars

Chapter 6

Forever Beneath the Stars

WHEN THE STARS REMEMBERED US · August 18, 2026

The morning of the wedding arrived quietly.

There was no storm.

No warning.

No unexpected phone call.

For once, life was simply peaceful.

Amelia stood in front of the bedroom mirror, staring at her reflection.

Her wedding dress was simple and elegant.

Soft ivory fabric.

Delicate lace.

Tiny pearls along the sleeves.

She touched the silver star necklace around her neck.

The same necklace Noah had given her.

Her mother entered the room.

For a moment, she simply stared.

Then she smiled.

“You look beautiful.”

Amelia smiled.

“I’m nervous.”

“That’s normal.”

Her mother walked closer and adjusted her veil.

“Are you happy?”

Amelia didn’t hesitate.

“More than I’ve ever been.”

Her mother hugged her.

“Then don’t be afraid.”

Amelia closed her eyes.

She remembered being seventeen.

A girl sitting on the beach beside Noah.

A girl believing they had forever.

Then she remembered the train station.

The waiting.

The tears.

The years without him.

And finally—

his return.

Sometimes life took people away only to teach them how precious they were.

Across town, Noah stood in front of the mirror.

He was wearing a dark suit.

His best friend Daniel was fixing his tie.

“You look terrified.”

“I’m not.”

“You’ve been staring at the same wall for ten minutes.”

Noah laughed.

“I’m thinking.”

“About?”

“Everything.”

Daniel smiled.

“Are you sure?”

Noah looked at himself in the mirror.

“I’ve never been more sure of anything.”

He touched the small photograph inside his jacket.

The photograph of him and Amelia when they were seventeen.

He carried it everywhere.

Today, it felt different.

It wasn’t a memory anymore.

It was the beginning of everything.

The wedding took place beside the sea.

The same sea where Noah and Amelia had once dreamed about the future.

White flowers surrounded the ceremony.

Small lights hung from the trees.

The ocean moved gently behind them.

The sky was turning gold.

Guests stood as Amelia walked down the aisle.

Noah looked at her.

For a moment, he forgot to breathe.

She smiled.

He smiled back.

When she reached him, he whispered,

“You’re beautiful.”

She whispered,

“You look nervous.”

“I am.”

“Why?”

“Because this is the most important moment of my life.”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“Mine too.”

The ceremony began.

The officiant smiled.

“Today, two people stand before us who have already survived the hardest part of love.”

Amelia looked at Noah.

“Finding their way back.”

Noah squeezed her hand.

The officiant continued.

“Do you promise to choose each other?”

Noah looked into Amelia’s eyes.

“I do.”

Amelia smiled.

“I do.”

“Do you promise to stay when life becomes difficult?”

“I do.”

“Do you promise to remember why you chose each other?”

Noah looked at her.

“Every day.”

Amelia’s voice trembled.

“Every day.”

Then it was time for their vows.

Noah went first.

“I spent seven years believing that losing you was the price I had to pay to keep you safe.”

His eyes filled with tears.

“But I was wrong.”

He held her hands.

“Love was never something I had to run from.”

He smiled.

“It was the place I was supposed to return to.”

Amelia cried.

Noah continued.

“I can’t promise that life will always be easy.”

“I can’t promise that we will never disagree.”

“And I can’t promise that I’ll stop stealing the blanket.”

Everyone laughed.

Amelia laughed through her tears.

“But I promise this.”

His voice became quiet.

“Whenever life becomes difficult, I will reach for your hand.”

He squeezed her fingers.

“And whenever you forget how loved you are, I will remind you.”

Amelia wiped her tears.

“I promise to choose you.”

“I promise to find you.”

“I promise to come home.”

“And I promise that no matter how many years pass…”

She smiled.

“…you will always be the person I want beside me.”

Noah kissed her hand.

Then it was her turn.

Amelia looked at him.

“I used to think our story ended at a train station.”

Noah’s eyes softened.

“I thought you were gone forever.”

She took a breath.

“But you came back.”

She smiled.

“And you taught me something.”

“What?”

“Some people aren’t meant to disappear from our lives.”

She touched his cheek.

“Some people are meant to become our lives.”

Noah’s eyes filled with tears.

Amelia continued.

“I promise to love every version of you.”

“The boy I knew.”

“The man you became.”

“And every person you will be.”

She smiled.

“I promise to choose you on sunny days.”

She laughed softly.

“And on rainy ones.”

Noah smiled.

“I promise to love you when the stars are bright.”

“And when we can’t see them.”

She held his hands.

“Because I know they’re still there.”

The officiant smiled.

“Then I think we have waited long enough.”

Everyone laughed.

“You may kiss.”

Noah leaned toward her.

Amelia smiled.

Their lips met.

The guests applauded.

The sea moved behind them.

The sun disappeared beneath the horizon.

And above them, the first stars appeared.

Later that night, Amelia and Noah sat alone near the water.

Their wedding celebration continued behind them.

Music drifted through the garden.

Lights shimmered between the trees.

Amelia rested her head on Noah’s shoulder.

“Are you happy?”

He kissed her forehead.

“I’m home.”

She smiled.

“So am I.”

He looked toward the sky.

“Do you remember what you told me when we were seventeen?”

“What?”

“That stars remember every wish.”

She smiled.

“And you laughed at me.”

“I didn’t laugh.”

“You did.”

“Maybe a little.”

She looked at the stars.

“What do you think they remember now?”

Noah took her hand.

“Everything.”

“The train station?”

“Yes.”

“The rain?”

“Yes.”

“The seven years?”

“Especially those.”

Amelia looked at him.

“And this?”

He smiled.

“Most of all.”

She rested her head against his chest.

“Do you ever wonder what would have happened if we had never found each other again?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t want to imagine a life where I didn’t come back.”

She smiled.

“I don’t either.”

Years later, Amelia would sometimes tell their story to their children.

She would tell them about a boy and a girl who fell in love beside the sea.

She would tell them about the train station.

The letters.

The years apart.

The secrets.

The fear.

And finally, the way love brought them back together.

One night, her daughter asked,

“Mom, did you always know Dad was the one?”

Amelia smiled.

“No.”

Her daughter looked confused.

“Then how did you know?”

Amelia looked toward Noah.

He was standing near the window, smiling at them.

“I didn’t.”

She smiled.

“I simply chose him.”

Her daughter thought about that.

“Every day?”

“Every day.”

Noah walked over and kissed Amelia’s forehead.

“Still choosing me?”

She smiled.

“Always.”

Many years later, when they were old and their hair had turned silver, Noah took Amelia back to the train station.

The same station.

The same shelter.

The same bench.

They sat together.

Amelia held his hand.

“Do you remember the first time we met?”

Noah smiled.

“I remember everything.”

She rested her head on his shoulder.

“Would you do it all again?”

He looked at her.

“Every mistake.”

“Every goodbye?”

“Every goodbye.”

“Even the seven years apart?”

He became quiet.

“Those were painful.”

Amelia looked at him.

“But?”

He kissed her hand.

“But they made me understand how much I loved you.”

She smiled.

The evening sky filled with stars.

Noah looked up.

“They remembered.”

Amelia laughed softly.

“What?”

“Our wish.”

She looked at him.

“What wish?”

He smiled.

“The one we made when we were seventeen.”

“What was it?”

“To find our way home.”

Amelia squeezed his hand.

“We did.”

They sat together beneath the stars.

Two people who had once been separated by time.

Two people who had once believed their story was over.

Two people who had finally learned that some love stories don’t end when people say goodbye.

Sometimes they simply wait.

Until the right moment.

Until the right person returns.

Until the stars remember the way home.

And when the night grew darker, Noah kissed Amelia’s forehead.

“I love you.”

She smiled.

“I love you too.”

The stars continued shining above them.

And their story continued quietly—

not because they had promised to live forever,

but because they had learned how to make every day feel like forever.
