The storm had turned the quiet village into a world of darkness and noise.

Rain struck the rooftops.

Daniel ran toward him.

He grabbed his son and pulled him into a hug.

“Don’t ever do that again.”

Kai laughed weakly.

“You’re crying.”

“I’m not.”

“You are.”

Daniel wiped his face.

“It’s rain.”

Kai smiled.

“Of course.”

Then Aria ran toward him.

She didn’t say anything.

She simply threw her arms around him.

Kai held her tightly.

“I told you I’d come back.”

She buried her face against his chest.

“I was so scared.”

“I’m sorry.”

“I thought I lost you.”

“You didn’t.”

She pulled back.

“Don’t ever scare me like that again.”

Kai smiled.

“I’ll try.”

She hit his shoulder lightly.

“That’s not good enough.”

He laughed.

“Okay. I promise.”

The next morning, the storm had finally disappeared.

The village looked tired.

Trees had fallen.

Fishing boats had been damaged.

Several houses needed repairs.

But everyone was alive.

Kai helped repair the harbor.

Aria worked beside him.

Kai sat on the beach.

Then she said,

“What?”

“You love me?”

She laughed.

“I love you.”

He took her hand.

She looked at him.

“I already am.”

“No.”

He smiled.

“I mean after university.”

She became quiet.

“To your village?”

“Yes.”

“You want me to live there?”

“I want us to build something there.”

Aria looked at the sea.

“What about our careers?”

“We’ll find a way.”

“And your family?”

“They’ll be happy.”

She smiled.

“And you?”

Kai squeezed her hand.

“I’ll be happier.”

Aria rested her head against his shoulder.

“I’ll think about it.”

Kai laughed.

“That’s not a yes.”

“It’s not a no.”

“I’ll take it.”

“You and Aria are serious.”

Daniel smiled.

“I know.”

“You should.”

Kai looked at her.

“What?”

“You should go.”

“But I don’t want to leave you.”

She smiled sadly.

“And I want you to achieve yours.”

Kai took her hand.

“What if distance changes everything?”

Aria looked directly into his eyes.

He remained silent.

She smiled.

“You waited for me when I was learning to understand your world.”

She squeezed his hand.

Kai’s eyes filled with emotion.

He pulled her into his arms.

“I know.”
